2026-27 MIGRATORY GAME BIRD SEASON SET
HARRISBURG, PA – Pennsylvania’s 2026-27 migratory game bird seasons have been set.
Annual migratory game bird seasons are selected by states from frameworks established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Game Commission selections were made after reviewing last year’s hunter harvests, population survey data and public input.
There are two significant changes to Pennsylvania waterfowl seasons this year. First, in the Atlantic Population Zone in southeastern Pennsylvania, the length of the regular Canada goose season has increased from 30 days to 45 days, and the daily bag limit has increased from one bird to three birds. Second, the start and end dates of the light goose regular season in both goose zones have shifted later, and a decision on whether a conservation season will be held will be made at a later date.

Donna J. Farley, 59, formerly of Lynch Rd. St. Marys, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys, PA.
She was born on December 31, 1966, in St. Marys, the daughter of Linda Farley, who survives.
Donna was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School. She was a remarkable woman whose strength, determination, and independent spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. For ten years, Donna worked at Elcam, where she formed many lasting friendships and was cherished by her coworkers. She proudly competed in the Special Olympics, earning numerous medals through her hard work, perseverance, and competitive spirit. Donna found joy in doing crafts, trying her luck with scratch-off tickets, visiting the casino to gamble, spending time with those she loved. Her mother lovingly described her as her “special angel,” a title that perfectly reflected the light and happiness she brought to others. An inspiration to many, Donna faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and determination that will never be forgotten.

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—Gary Gene “Poppy” Johnston, 82, of Shinglehouse, passed peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, where he was surrounded by exceptional care, kindness, and love.
Born August 21, 1943, in Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Walter Dane Johnston and Virginia (Kemp) Johnston, later Virginia Ogilvie.
Gary grew up with a strong sense of family, hard work, and self‑reliance—values that shaped the man he became. He married the love of his life, Vickie Lee (Clark) Johnston, on October 31, 1964, and together they shared many devoted years. Gary was preceded in death by Vickie, and their reunion is a comfort to those who loved them both.

PUC Schedules Hearings To Gather Public Input On Proposed Rate Increase Requested By UGI Utilities Inc. – Electric Division
Early June in-person public input hearings scheduled in Luzerne County, along with telephonic hearings
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will hold a series of in-person and telephonic hearings in early-June to gather public input on the proposed rate increase requested by UGI Utilities Inc. – Electric Division (UGI Electric). UGI Electric provides electric distribution services to approximately 63,000 customers in Luzerne and Wyoming counties.
On March 27, 2026, UGI Electric filed a request to increase annual overall revenue by nearly $17.3 million (about 11.9%). On April 16, 2026, the PUC voted to suspend and investigate the company’s request which as proposed would result in the total monthly bill for a residential customer, using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month, increasing from $200.50 to $226.23 (12.8%).
A final decision by the Commission on this rate increase request is due by Jan. 1, 2027.
Customers are encouraged to follow the case and learn more about how to participate in the ratemaking process through resources available on the PUC’s website.

United Way Awarded First Quarter Impact Funds
Bradford, PA — The United Way of the Bradford Area has awarded the second round of Quarterly Impact funding. This funding stream is available quarterly throughout the year.
The agencies receiving the second quarter funding are the A Partnership in Housing – Work Essentials Program, Meals on Wheels – Steam Table, Destinations Bradford – Gas Cards, Emanual Lutheran Church Foster Closet, Landmark Society – Cook Farm School Program , Bradford Library – Summer Reading Program , Port Allegany Community Service – Food Pantry, and Church of the Ascension – Food Pantry Hygiene Items.
Quarterly Impact funds are available for qualifying 501(c)3 organizations in Bradford, Smethport and Port Allegany. Impact grant applications are capped at $1,500.00 per request and are subject to availability of funds. The third quarterly round of grants will be open July 1st with submissions due on August 3rd.

8:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M – Introduction to Fly Fishing – Give fly fishing a try with this Introduction to Fly Fishing program. In this three-hour program, participants will receive instruction in fly casting, learn the differences between fly fishing and spin fishing, and spend time fishing the First Fork of Sinnemahoning Creek. A license exemption has been given to this educational program; participants do not need a fishing license to fish during the program time. Pre-registration is required for this program and space is very limited. Participants are asked to bring fishing waders or appropriate clothing to wet wade.
