Dept 5,6,20,26 dispatched for a reported MVA with no injuries. Chief 5 responded and received additional information which was an oil truck overturned. Chief 5 arrived on scene and reported a tanker truck overturned on it roof. Chief 5 immediately assessed the patient for injuries while asking exactly what the tanker truck was hauling and how much.
Chief 5 was informed it was hauling 2,200 gallons of diesel fuel and 400 gallons of gasoline. Chief 5 established command and requested Hazmat 99-3 and for the ambulance to do a patient check over. Command sized up the tanker and could not see any major leaks but it was close to a small creek.
Whites repair was on scene and had placed absorbent pads down. Engine 5-3, Squad 5-18 with hazmat 99-3, rescue 6-8, engine 6-2, rescue 20-28, ambulance 26-6 all responded. Dept 20 was returned and put on stand by for dept 5 and dept 6 sent a member back to get tanker 6-5.
Fire units placed absorbent booms in the creek as a precaution. Notifications were made to Department of Environmental Protection to keep them informed of the situation. All fire and ems units remained on stand by while the company brought another tanker truck to pump off the fuel. It took approximately 4 hours to pump off all fuel. After it was pumped off whites repair with their two big wrecker trucks flipped the truck back onto its wheels.
After all was said and done units were on scene for close to 5 hours and there was minimal spilled on the ground and no fluids in any waterways. A huge thank you to Austinburg Dandy mini marts for their donation of pizza for members to eat. As usual amazing teamwork by all agencies involved. Teamwork makes the dream work!
