MOLLY’S BOYS JUGBAND INVITES AUDIENCE MEMBERS TO PERFORM ON SPOONS AND WASHBOARDS THIS SATURDAY, NOV. 23
This Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m., the Molly’s Boys Jugband is inviting audience members to play handmade spoons, washboards and other inventive instruments for one song during their show in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
Band members are: Jay Short of Williamsport on lead guitar, Gerry Cavaliere of Danville on guitar and Dave Driskell of Wellsboro on clarinet, saxophone, flute, and tenor banjo as well as the jug, washboard, and musical saw.
These two guitarists and woodwind player delight audiences with their rhythmical, bluesy style as they sing and play contemporary and old-time tunes, blues, folk, rock, and original songs.
The three men are also known for their sense of fun, introducing audiences to playing spoons and other idiophone percussion instruments that create sound through vibrating the material they are made of, such as wood, metal, or stone. Bells, gongs, washboards, and musical saws are also idiophones.
Spoons have been used to make rhythmic percussion music since ancient times. The Romans, Greeks and ancient Egyptians all played spoons.
The concert is BYOB with audience members encouraged to bring their favorite snacks and beverages and sit at a table with family and friends.
Seating is both cabaret style at tables and individual theatre-style seating in comfortable chairs.
For tickets and to reserve a table, call the Deane Center at 570-724-6220 or visit deanecenter.com.
Tickets, if available, will be sold at the ticket booth in the lobby at the Deane Center this Saturday, Nov. 23 beginning at 6:45 p.m.
