John F. Captoni, 81, of Wellsboro,
John F. Captoni, 81, of Wellsboro, passed away peacefully, Thursday November 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born December 25, 1942, in Paterson, NJ to John and Amanda (Woessner) Captoni. He graduated from high school and in August of 1961 entered into service of his country by joining the US Navy.
After serving through the Cuban Missile Crises, he was discharged in August of 1965. On October 1, 1966 he married Lois Mary Gieger, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. They left New Jersey to retire on their property outside of Wellsboro, and John set about integrating himself into the Wellsboro community, he attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church and become well-known to the people at George’s Restaurant, Dunkin’ Donuts and Denny’s Electric among his hangouts in the area. John loved to work with his hands and could often be found working in his barn, building furniture, rock walls, or splitting firewood. He also enjoyed fishing.
John is survived by his wife Lois of Wellsboro; two sons: John Captoni (Rachel) of Hardyston, NJ, and Brian Captoni of Bristol, NH; two daughters: Kathleen Stevens (Tony) of West Milford, NJ, and Colleen Naclerio (Joseph) of Pine Bus, NY; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister: Susanne Porter (Fred) of Oakridge, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with John’s wishes his arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
