Clifford J. Murray, Jr., 99, of Gaines, PA passed away on December 25, 2022 at the Laurels, Wellsboro.
Cliff was born August 21, 1923 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Clifford J. and Mary Louise (Thomas) Murray. He was the husband of the late Josephine (McGlade) Murray.
Cliff was self employed as a commercial printer for 45 years. He was a Navy Lieutenant serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and attended the First Baptist Church, Galeton.
Cliff was a sports car enthusiast, avid Sports Car Club of America rallyist and rallied for Ford Motor Company, and Captain of the Ford Rally Team. He was also a member of the Porsche Club of America and the National Champion Sports Car Rallyist when they introduced the Mustang.
He was a world traveler, enjoyed upland game hunting, especially with bird dogs, and fly fishing. He loved the Pine Creek and lived at Grubb Hole for 37 years. Cliff also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, representing the United States in Europe in 1937.
Cliff is survived by a son, Clifford (Jeannie) Murray III of Chester Springs; a daughter Susan Girdis of Leesburg, FL; grandchildren, Allison Thomas and Susan Thais; and three great grandchildren, Lucas Thais, Aubrey Thais, and Kiley Thomas. In addition to his parents and wife, Cliff was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jack Girdis.
A memorial service for Cliff will be held 11:00am Monday January 16, 2023 at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home and a private burial will be held in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Chester Springs.
