Betty Gene SPRINGER, 77, of Port Allegany, PA, died Monday, October 27, 2025 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport. Born August 9, 1948, in Port Allegany, she was the daughter of Eugene V. and Elizabeth Z. Hoffman Sherwood. A 1966 graduate of Port Allegany High School, she was employed as a nurse’s aide at several area nursing homes. She was married to Paul A. Springer, who predeceased her on July 20, 1995.
Celia E. “Betty” Agosti, 85, of 122 Kyler Corner Road and formerly of Upper Cherry Road, Kersey, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 28, 2025 following a brief illness.
She was born June 15, 1940 in Benezette, daughter of the late Robert and Louise Sexton Glatt.Betty attended school in Benezette and worked twenty-seven years at Stackpole Carbon Company and later at Glatt’s Inn and Keystone Carbon.
On July 2, 1960, in St. Boniface Church, Betty married the late Donald J. “Dumpty” Agosti, who preceded her in death on December 28, 2002.
James L. “Jim” Wendel, 87, of 112 Grandview Road in St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois, following a brief illness.
Born May 8, 1938, in St. Marys, Jim was the son of the late Roman and Bertha Eckert Wendel of St. Marys. On September 8, 1956, at Queen of the World Church, he married the love of his life, Judith Erich Wendel, who survives. Together, they shared a lifetime of overcoming hardship, laughter, teamwork, and unwavering devotion.
Julie M. CONNER, 42, of Genesee, PA, died Saturday, October 25, 2025 in UR Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, NY. Born May 5, 1983, in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of Roger D. and Virginia L. “Ginger” Bailey Ballard.
A 2001 graduate of Northern Potter High School, she earned her LPN degree in 2020 from the Pennsylvania College of Technology. On May 10, 2002, in Ulysses, she married the love of her life, Raymond W. Conner, Jr., who survives. She was employed by Reed’s Market in Genesee for ten years. In nursing, she worked as a traveling nurse and was employed by Aveanna Healthcare doing home healthcare for the last two years.
Pauline B. “Polly” MORLEY, 85, of Adamstown, MD, formerly of Campbell, NY, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Adamstown. Born April 18, 1940, in Coudersport, PA, she was the daughter of Leonard DeForest and Maude E. Williamson Burdick. On July 2, 1960, in Ulysses, PA, she married the love of her life, Stephen B. Morley, who predeceased her on December 6, 2024.
Diana B. ALLEN, 77, of Andover, NY, died Saturday, October 25, 2025 in UR Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville. Born February 11, 1948, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Raymond R. and Mildred P. Conable Burdge. On June 25, 1977, in Rochester, she married Curtis R. Allen, who survives.
Diana was a graduate of Wellsville High School. A cat lover, she would take in strays to give them a loving home.
Surviving besides her husband, Curtis, are: two sisters, Rebecca Anthony of Lakeland, FL and Linda Stanzel of Rochester; a brother, Terry (Elizabeth) Burdge of Rochester; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Larry R. Burdge.

She was born January 7, 1952, in Olean, New York, a daughter of the late James D. and Arlene D. Freer Atwater. In Franklinville, New York, she married the late Albert L. LaPolt, Sr.
Minni was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed couponing and crafting and was an avid reader, especially fond of romance novels.

Charles F. “Chuck” Eckl, 84, of 144 Laurel Lane, Kersey, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born October 19, 1941, in his home in Daguscahonda, son of the late Benedict and Helen Marie Fulmer Eckl.
He was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1959, and formerly employed at Pure Carbon Company and Sylvania as a mechanic.On May 21, 1960, in Sacred Heart Church, Chuck married Carol VanDerlin, who survives. They were blessed to share sixty-five years of marriage.
Port Allegany – Richard G. Lathrop, 87, of Port Allegany, passed away Saturday (October 25, 2025) at his home in Port Allegany.
He was born December 19, 1937 in Crosby, PA, the son of Ellsworth and Anna (Weidert) Lathrop, Sr . On December 7, 1978, in Port Allegany, he married Darlene F. Niles, who died August 12, 2024.
Mr. Lathrop attended Smethport High School and worked at Viko in Eldred and later as a mechanic for Dexter-Henkel, retiring in 2000. He also was a van driver for S.Wilson until 2020.

Jerry was born in Warren PA, on February 23, 1936. He was the son of Samuel and Phyllis Barone Berardi. He was a lifelong Warren area resident. Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Warren High School. He was employed with Blair Corporation in the mailing department at the Irvine Distribution Center, for 44 years, retiring in 1998.

Charles T. MESS, 66, of Riverside Drive, Wellsville, NY, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in the Comfort House of Allegany County, Wellsville. Born August 10, 1959, in North Hornell, he was the son of Robert Mess and Phylis Jean Biddle.
He is survived by a daughter, Emily Mess; and a son, Tyler Mess. He was predeceased by his parents.
John D. Erskine, Jr., 63, of Emporium, PA passed away at his residence on Friday morning, October 24, 2025.
He was born October 6, 1962, in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, a son of Ilvia (Robles) Spooner of Emporium and the late John Erskine, Sr.
John attended Cameron County High School and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for several years at Motor Coil Manufacturing in Emporium, PA, a bellhop at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City and later a salesman, selling telecommunication devices.
Christopher D. ANDERTON, 73, of Wellsville, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Born May 6, 1952, in Oil City, PA, he was the son of Alfred D. and Joan M. Barclay Anderton.
A 1971 graduate of Wellsville High School, he served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1971 — 1974. He graduated from Alfred State College in 1977. Chris was employed by Air Preheater Company in Wellsville as an Aftermarket Sales Representative.
Robert Dauer Stackpole, 79, a resident of Jefferson Manor in Brookville, passed away October 17, 2025.
He was born August 14, 1946, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Harrison Clinton and Murial Beatrice Dauer Stackpole. Dauer was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh and pursued his post-graduate studies at Bucknell University. Following his years of schooling, Dauer was employed in the marketing department of Stackpole Carbon Company from 1972-1982.
On April 11, 1987, in St. Agnes Episcopal Church, he married Lucy Geiger Irvin, who survives. In addition to his wife, Dauer is survived by a daughter, Daisy Stackpole (Erik); a sister, Laurey Turner; and a brother, Scott Stackpole.
Karen Irene Hulings Davidson, 75, of Ludlow, PA, formerly of Warren, PA, died on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in her home, after a courageous hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born in Bradford on January 27, 1950, the daughter of the late Samuel and Geraldine Hawes Stein. Karen was a 1967 graduate of Bradford High School and received her bachelor’s degree in business from Houghton University. She worked for 25 years in the Human Resource Dept., at Warren General Hospital, and retired from Calvert-Pearson Insurance in 2022. In her earlier years, Karen taught Piyo classes in Warren and Sheffield. She enjoyed walking with her husband, Larry, cooking, baking, holidays, and most importantly, spending time with her loving family.
Robert C. Tingley, Sr., 79, of Bradford, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at his home.
He was born on March 2, 1946 in Bradford; a son of the late Harold and Angeline Romano Tingley.
He was a 1964 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
Bob was a longtime member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church where he was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Italian American Progressive Club and an avid bowler in his younger years. Over a thirty-eight year period he donated over 28 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
James F. GOTSHALL, 91, of Port Allegany, PA, passed Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in UPMC Williamsport. He was born November 21, 1933, in Buffalo, NY. On February 25, 1967, in Smethport, he married Kathryn M. Earle Olmstead, who survives.
A 1951 graduate of Port Allegany High School, he was employed by Ball-Foster Glass Container Co. in Port Allegany, retiring in 1999. Jim was a member of the First Church of God in Eldred and served as an officer of Glass, Molders, & Plastics International Union Local #54 for 33 years.
Valerie A. ABBOTT, 67, of Wellsville, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in UR Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville. Born September 28, 1958, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Lioanel L., Jr. and Barbara Ann Burdick Abbott.
A 1976 graduate of Wellsville High School, she was employed by AVX Corporation in Olean for 36 years. Valerie enjoyed spending time with family, the family dogs, reading, and word puzzles.
Joanne Gasper, 94, a resident of Brookdale Senior Living in Pittsburgh and formerly of St. Marys, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side Tuesday, October 21, 2025 following a lengthy illness.
She was born November 22, 1930, in Emporium, daughter of the late George A. and Kathryn Davin Kinsler. Joanne was a graduate of Emporium High School, Class of 1948, continued her education at the University of Buffalo and earned her Master’s of Education from Penn State University. Joanne spent her working career as an elementary school teacher, where she touched countless young lives. She retired from the St. Marys School District in 1992.
Albert Richard Pavoni Jr., 85, of Port Allegany, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Monday (Oct. 20, 2025) at his residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1940, in Philadelphia, the son of Albert Sr. and Antoinette Tabasco Pavoni. On May 2, 1960, in Philadelphia, he married Mary Anne Fanty, who survives.
Al was a graduate of South Philly High School in Philadelphia and attended barber school.
Mr. Pavoni was a self-employed barber for many years, inheriting Al’s Barber Shop from his father and operating it until his retirement. He was “Forever our Superman.”
