Anita Joyce Owens “beloved mother, grandmother, and sister”
Anita Joyce Owens, 90, a longtime resident of Costello, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a brief illness.
Born on Saturday, August 3, 1935 in Sizerville, she was a daughter of Earl Sr. and Mildred Kephart Zimmer. On May 19, 1955, she married Gene R. “Weiner” Owens, who passed away in December of 2000.
Robert B. Harnish, 90, of Wellsboro, passed away Saturday August 30, 2025, at his residence.
He was born February 17, 1935, in Coatesville, PA, to George M. and Gladys B. (Detterline) Harnish. Robert worked as a Yard Master for Conrail.
On May 11, 1985, he married Beverly Yohe.Robert attended the Coolidge Hollow Community Church, served in the National Guard, was a member and Past Master of Keystone Lodge 569 Brandywine Goddard Masonic Lodge, an avid reader, an accomplished cross stitcher and loved caring for his Black Labs.
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—John T. Crossman, 82, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in UPMC Williamsport, after a long illness.
Born on Monday, December 7, 1942 in Rochester, NY, he was a son of James H. and Olive E. Kennedy Crossman.
John was a graduate of East Rochester High School, Class of 1961. He was a US Army veteran having served as radio operator in Alaska during the Vietnam War Era. He served a four year apprenticeship with the NY Central Railroad. He was employed by Dresser Industries in Wellsville, NY, retiring in 2003 as a Senior Design Draftsman.
Vincent P. “Pete” Murray, 99, of 675 Maurus Street, St. Marys, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025 following a brief illness.
He was born on July 19, 1926 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late John and Margaret Mertz Murray. Pete recently celebrated his 99th birthday in July.
On October 12, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church, he married Charlotte Welton Murray, who survives. Together they shared nearly 68 years of love, laughter, and marriage.
Maxine C. Jordan, 86, of Warren, PA., died Friday morning, August 29, 2025, at AHN St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, PA., after an extended illness.
Maxine was born September 4, 1938, in Akron, OH. She was the daughter of Wilmer and Dorothy McCombs Thomas. She was a longtime Warren area resident. Maxine graduated from Warren High School Class of 1956.
She was employed with the former Penn Furnace. She loved music, such as Credence Clearwater Revival, Elvis and the Platters. She was an avid reader and loved completing crossword puzzles. She was a former member of Sheffield United Methodist Church.
CLARA, PA—Nancy C. Martin, 85, of Clara, PA, passed away with her loving husband and friends by her side on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Eldred– Robert Gene “Bob” Whitsell, 82, of Slack Hollow Rd., passed away Wednesday (August 13th, 2025) at UPMC Cole Memorial Hospital, with his wife by his side.
Born November 3rd, 1943 in Wellsville he was a son of Robert George and Hester Latten Whitsell. On November 18th, 1966 in the bride’s family home on Slack Holow, he married Bonnie Smith, who survives.
Greg A. Stilwell, 59, of Warren, PA., died Wednesday evening, August 27, 2025, at his residence, after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Greg was born January 7, 1966, in Warren, PA. He was a 1985, graduate of Warren Area High School and was a lifelong Warren area resident. He was employed with Help at Home, Bon Ton Department Store, Whirley Drink Works, and worked security at National Forge Company and United Refining Company, retiring due to failing health.
James W. “Jim” McPHERSON, 70, of Sunderlinville, PA, died Monday, August 25, 2025 in Wheaton’s Personal Care Home, Westfield. Born March 15, 1955, in Blossburg, he was the son of Robert and Mary M. Snay McPherson.
A 1974 graduate of Galeton Area High School, he was employed by Pure Carbon in Coudersport, Schweizer Aircraft in Horseheads, NY, and served as a Hector Township Supervisor for 35 years.
Howard “Pooch” Grant, 91, of St. Marys, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2025, with his devoted companion, Laura, by his side.
He was born December 9, 1933, in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Emma Friedl Grande.
Pooch attended St. Marys Schools but left early to dedicate himself to the family farm, which he worked and cared for nearly 75 years. He found great pride in the hard work of farming and cherished the friendships and connections he made within the farming community. Known for his lighthearted spirit and constant humor, Pooch had a way of bringing a smile to everyone he met.
Helen M. Riddle was called by the Lord on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from the home she and her husband built at 483 Honey Lane in St. Marys.
She was born August 16, 1934 on a farm in Kersey, daughter of the late Francis and Helen Dietz Gahr. On July 9, 1955, in St. Boniface Church, Helen married Marvin Riddle, who survives. They recently were blessed to celebrate seventy years of marriage.
Robert A. “Bob” ABBOTT, II, 67, of Sylvania, PA, formerly of Belmont, NY, died Thursday, August 21, 2025 in Arnot Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Born June 17, 1958, in Wellsville, he was the son of Robert A. and Donna M. Baker Abbott. Bob was a 1976 graduate of Belmont Central School.
On June 25, 1977, he married his soulmate and best friend, Susan M. “Susie” Bliven, who predeceased him on December 19, 2021. He was employed by Suburban Propane, RMT, and retired as a foreman from Dresser Rand. After retirement, he and his wife owned and operated B&S Convenience Store in Sylvania.
Cathy A. Darrin, 72, of 7 Royal Avenue, Bradford, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born September 27, 1952, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Louis E. and Burles J. (Glady) Valerius. She was a 1971 graduate of Bradford High School.
On November 4, 2000, in the Four Square Gospel Church she married Alan D. Darrin who survives.
Melissa A. TALLMAN, 51, of Richburg, died on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Houghton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on September 25, 1973, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Gary J. and Darlene B. (Hodgkins) Burns.
Melissa was raised in Scio, attending the Wellsville and Scio Central School Districts. She was a homemaker who enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, reading, coloring, hanging out with her friends, and most of all being with her family.
Hattie M. (Wilcox) Wilson, 85, of Wellsboro, passed away Monday August 25, 2025, at the Green Home in Wellsboro. She was born September 3, 1939, in Wellsboro, to Richard and Gladys (Makin) Wilcox. She graduated from Wellsboro High School in the class of “58”, and in 1996 married Cortland V. Wilson. They shared 18 years of marriage before he passed away July 10, 2014. Hattie had worked in housekeeping at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro, she was a member of the Tioga Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was proud to have had the opportunity to serve as a foster grandparent in the program at Wellsboro’s Charlotte Lappla Elementary School.
James J. (Jimmy) Carlson, 50, of 8 Forman Street, Bradford, passed away, Sunday August 24, 2025, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born January 5, 1975, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Inez M. (Finland) Carlson.
Surviving are two brothers, Larry (Julie) Carlson of Limestone NY, Carl (Sue) Carlson of Bradford, five nieces and nephews; Katelyn (Raymond) Rettger, Dakota Galloway, Tyler Carlson, Abbey Carlson, Chad (Alexa Ackerman) Carlson, Rennie (Brittany) Florentine, Hannah Florentine, and five grand nieces and nephews; Chase Carlson, Adam Carlson, Madi Rettger, Claire Florentine, Kelsie Florentine.
Samantha R. SwartWood, 38, of Titusville, PA., formerly of Russell, PA., died accidently Friday evening, August 22, 2025, as the result of injuries sustained in ATV accident. Samantha was born July 27, 1987, at Fort Hood, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Warren County, moving to Titusville, February of 2025. Samantha was a 2005, graduate of Eisenhower High School. She was formerly employed with Elwood Crankshaft Company for 5 years, and was currently working at Accu-Tech of Meadville, PA. Samantha was an avid horse & dog lover, she enjoyed riding 4-Wheelers, dirt bikes, and shooting. She loved driving her truck.
Amy Mosch Buttery, 68, of Coudersport, passed away on August 22, 2025, at home. She was born in Coudersport, PA on April 29, 1957, to Dr. George and Doris Mosch.
Amy was a graduate of Coudersport High School and of Penn State University. She worked at UPMC Cole for 37 years as a medical social worker. She touched the lives of many in her role-helping families through their most difficult times. Amy was a voracious reader and adored spending time with her family.
Amy is survived by her loving husband, Tom Buttery; daughters: Amanda Dillion and Chelsey (Andrew) Rendos both of Wellsboro; a stepson, Max Buttery; grandchildren: Eliana Dillon, Lylah Dillon, Audrey Rendos, Christian Rendos, Emma Rendos; brothers: Steve (Deb) Mosch of Savannah, GA; and Luke (Marlo) Mosch of Lancaster; sisters: Barbara (Greg) Mosch of State College; and Sally Fowler of Roulette: and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Mosch, and a son-in-law, Jonathon Dillon.
Phyllis Ruth (Turner) Dow was born on October 30, 1943, in Buffalo, New York. After her father, Willis Turner returned from WWII, he and his wife, Ruth (Hooftallen) and their new daughter returned to Austin, PA where she attended the local school, graduating in 1961.
On July 31, 1965, she married Douglas M. Dow, also of Austin. Although Phyllis worked at various jobs and volunteered at several locations throughout the years, her dearest job was raising her family with her husband Doug and enjoying time with family and friends.
In October 2000, Phyllis was granted the miracle of 25 additional years of life through the generous donation of a kidney from her sister Dale (Turner) Hunsinger. Her family is forever grateful.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Ruth and her husband Douglas.
She is survived by her daughters Laura Dow and Tracey Dow, her sisters Dale (Jerry) Hunsinger and Peggy (Duane) Dow, in-laws Dean and Cathy Dow, Danny Dow and Doris Dow along with innumerable nieces and nephews all of whom she cherished.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects, Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 10-11:00 am at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home 210 North East Street Coudersport, PA 16915.
A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am, and burial will be in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Austin.
Family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016, or to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Rd, Lock Haven, PA 17745, or a charity of your choice.
The friends and family of Philip and Julia Smith are invited to their graveside service on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 4:00 pm in Woodlawn Cemetery, 276 S. Main Street in Wellsville. Phil died on October 29, 2024, and Judy died December 24, 2021.

Gordon was born April 20, 1954, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Louis F. and Dorris Gordon Mathis. He was a lifelong Warren area resident. He was a 1972 graduate of Warren Area High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.
Margaret J. Bires Hammerbeck, 95, of Warren, PA. and a resident of the Rouse Suites, Youngsville, PA. died Saturday morning, August 16, 2025, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, PA.
Margaret was born June 10, 1930, in Ludlow, PA. She was the daughter of George J. and Mary Steffan Bires. She was a longtime Warren area resident, living in Philadelphia, PA. for 11 years. Margaret was a 1948 graduate of Sheffield High School and completed commercial studies at the former Hoff Business College.

Born on Wednesday, March 3, 1954 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Gilbert R. and Doris Welch Crum. On October 30, 1982 in Shinglehouse, he married Carol L. Gilliland, who survives.
