Fayetteville, NC—Gloria Ann Press Nelson-Lamont passed away Monday, May 13, 2024 at her home in Fayetteville, NC after a lengthy illness.

Born September 2^nd, 1952 in Olean , New York, she was a daughter of Richard and Phyllis Coleman and John Press.

She was a 1970 graduate of Smethport Jr-Sr High School.

She went on to complete her LPN at St. Francis School of Nursing in Olean, New York in 1982 and received her Associates of Science in Nursing at JCC, Olean Campus in 1993.

Throughout her career, she worked OBGYN nurse, first at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital and after relocating, she worked at Highsmith Rainey in Fayetteville, NC.

Her career change took her to travel nursing where she worked in South Carolina and Womack Army Base. Her final change in career paths took her to work as Dialysis nurse for Fresenius in Acute Dialysis at Cape Fear Valley in Fayetteville, NC. Gloria retired in 2017. She enjoyed pastimes of Diamond Art, crochet, reading and trips to the beach.

Eva Marlene Thompson, 92, formerly of 12 South 4th Street, Bradford, PA passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Chapel Ridge.

Born November 30, 1931, in Crosby, she was a daughter of the late Orlin and Jennie (Huff) McClenehan. She was a 1950 graduate of Otto Eldred High School.

On June 2, 1953, in the Derrick City United Methodist Church, she married Robert L. Thompson, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2005. Mrs. Thompson was employed for many years as a cafeteria worker in the Bradford Area School District.

She was a member of Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, Community Outreach, 50 Plus Group, and the Bradford Ecumenical Home Auxiliary. When her daughters were young, she was a Leader for Girl Scouts.

Donald L. Stratton, age 87, of Lawrenceville, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro.

Born November 25, 1936 in Charleston Twp., he was the son of the late Louis and Hedwig (Anderson) Stratton. Don served in the US Army and retired in 1998 from Corning Glass, Inc. He married Roberta (Brennan) on July 2, 1976 and they shared 42 years together until her passing on Jan. 31, 2019.

Don was a member of the Vikings Lodge in Jamestown, NY and the Wellsboro and Elkland Moose Lodge, where he served as secretary for both and received his Pilgrims Degree in 1984. He loved reading, doing puzzles, being outside and mowing his lawn.

Rosemary M. Mattiuz, 85, of Hayes Road, Kersey, PA passed away peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh on Sunday, May 12, 2024 following complications of a stroke.

She was born on May 5, 1939 in Kersey, a daughter of the late Francis and Helen Dietz Gahr. On October 27, 1990, in St. Boniface Church, she married Ernest “Ernie” Mattiuz, who survives. Together they shared nearly 34 years of love, laughter, and marriage.

Rosemary was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church and was a beloved member of the Kersey community.  She graduated from Kersey High School, class of 1957, and over the years worked at Stackpole Carbon Company and Thrift Drug.  Throughout her life, Rosemary was very active and involved with the Elk County Farm Bureau, where she served for many years as the newsletter editor and county information director.  She was the last original founding member of the Elk County Fair and had served as their secretary for more than 20 years. Some of her other accomplishments included the Fox Township Citizen of the Year Award, 1980 American Legion Meritorious Service Award, and Elk County Farmer of the Year Award in 2007.

Julianne Costanzo, 91, of 510 Fourth Ave., Johnsonburg, PA passed away late Monday night, May 13, 2024, at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, following a brief illness. She was born August 17, 1932, in Johnsonburg, a daughter to the late Joseph and Rose Nicolazzo Costanzo. 

Growing up in Johnsonburg, Julianne was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1950. Julianne worked for Stackpole Corporation in Johnsonburg after high school and moved to Farmville, VA when the company moved operations there. She then moved to Raleigh, NC to work for Electroswitch, where she worked as the HR manager for 30 years, retiring in 2000 and returned home to Johnsonburg.

Julianne was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Johnsonburg Senior Center where she had been a volunteer to deliver Meals-On-Wheels. Julianne was a loving aunt to all her many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews and her cat Tommy. She was also an avid reader and loved to travel.

Julianne is survived by her nieces and nephews; Donna and Fran Dunworth, Michael and Jennifer Costanzo, Jeff and Jenny Costanzo, Lorraine Walley, Frank and Martha Condino, Dane and Vicki Condino, Linda Dietrick, James Parrish, Cassie and Bud Pitzer, Rosie and Hanz Bierwagon, Valerie and Ben Lepko and Amy Kline and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Julianne is predeceased by her brothers Michael and Frank “Jolly” Costanzo and sisters Rose Condino and Mary Parrish and a nephew Joseph Costanzo. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Julianne Costanzo will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, on Saturday May 18, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Fr. David Wilson, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. 

Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Chapel on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 AM.

Margaret F. “Peg” Confer, 87, of 44 Sanford Street, Bradford, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born November 8, 1936, in Corapolis, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (O’Rielly) Manion. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in McKees Rocks.

On June 16, 1954, in Corapolis, she married George E. Confer who preceded her in death on December 5, 2001. 

Peg was employed at Bradford High School and worked in the cafeteria, and retired in 1994, after 30 years of service.

She was a member of St. Bernard Church.  

Austin Michael Sayers, infant, of Bradford, PA passed away May 10, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.

He was the son of Aaron M. Sayers and Angela F. Taylor.

Surviving in addition to his parents are four sisters, Kylie, Savanna, Elaina, and Sadie, and one brother Lucas. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Evan and Carter.

There will be no public services observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Shirley Ann Corah

 Shirley A. Corah, 75, of 351 Barnum Road, Eldred, PA passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at home with her loving husband by her side. 

 Shirley was born on July 7, 1948, in Rochester and was the daughter of Alfred and Myrtle Megan Hadley. On October 21, 1978, in their home in Eldred, she married Jeff E. Corah. 

 Shirley worked at Dal-Tile in Olean in various positions in the mounting department, finishing her career in special assembly. 

Due to her wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Rosemary Mattiuz, 85, of Hayes Rd., Kersey, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital.

Marshall W. Harmon, 80, of Tioga, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, in the comfort of his home, after a long battle with cancer. Marshall was born on May 4, 1944, and was 80 years old upon his death.

Marshall was employed at Dresser Rand Co. in Wellsville New York for 52 years and was a member of LL1580 IAM Union from 1968 until he retired in 2020. He also served as a Pennsylvania Deputy Game Warden for many years and was a life member of both the NRA and the Potter County Anglers Club.

James Lee Wells, II, 66, of 9 Lincolndale Road, Bradford, PA passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 10, 1958, in Okinawa, Japan, he was a son of Kazuko (Taba) Wells of Bradford, and the late Jack L. Wells.

Jim was a 1975 graduate of Bradford High School, and a 1977 graduate of Williamsport Technical College where he earned a degree in Drafting.

On November 27, 1976, in the First United Methodist Church he married Debra A. (Cottillion) Wells, who survives.

Jim worked as a Draftsman at Dresser Manufacturing for over 20 years, and later at KOA Speer for 23 years.

He was a member of the Pine Acres Country Club, and he enjoyed painting, bowling, golfing, and most importantly spending time with his family. 

Edward P. Harris, 83, of 2 Abbott Road, Bradford, PA passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Shawn B. Krug, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

He was born on March 27, 1965 in St. Marys, a son of the late Joseph Krug and the late Roselyn Murray Bauer.

Shawn was a 1983 graduate of Elk County Christian High School and then attended Edinboro University. He worked for many years at Morgan AM & T, and had also worked for a number of years at Keystone. With a knack for computers, Shawn was always very talented at setting up and repairing computers. He was an avid Steelers fan and always enjoyed watching the games and cheering his team on. With a big heart and kind smile, Shawn will be missed by all who knew him.

Norman E. Eilers, 91, of 8117 SW 81St. Loop, Ocala, FL, and Bradford, PA passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at E.W. & Lucille Cates House in Ocala FL.

Born on January 11, 1933, in Sterling, NE, he was a son of the late Edward G. and Lora (Happel) Eilers. 

Norm grew up in Sterling, NE where he attended Sterling High School and played on the football team, lettering all 4 years. Upon graduation in 1951, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy for two years. After his enlistment he returned to Nebraska and married Joyce Marie (Garrigan) Eilers, on April 2, 1955, in Lincoln NE, he met Joyce while serving in the Navy. Joyce passed away on February 22, 1973. He later earned a degree from Erie Commercial College. 

On July 26, 1974, in the St. Bernard Church, he married Donna M. (Roslinski) Eilers, who survives.

Norm worked for Witco for 31 Years, retiring as the Assistant Industrial Sales Manager.

Norm was a member of the Bradford Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). He enjoyed singing as a member of the Bradford Barbershop Singers and was a charter  member of the Seneca Highland Theater. He served as a Second Ward Cub Scout Master, was a member of the Bradford Area Golf Association at Pine Acres Golf Course and a member of the National Ski Patrol for 23 years of which he served four years as the Patrol Leader at Wing Hollow Ski Resort in Allegany, NY.

Steven A. Watts, 72, of 616 West Corydon Street, Bradford, PA passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Cindy M. GREELEY, 67, of Coudersport, PA, died Friday, November 24, 2023 in Williamsport North Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.  Born September 14, 1956, Coudersport, she was the daughter of Rex Gerald and Gladys Louise Kazimer Greeley.  

A graduate of Austin Area High School, she was employed by the Northern Tier Children’s Home in Harrison Valley for several years.  Cindy was a former member of Abundant Life Full Gospel Fellowship in Knoxville.  

Surviving are: friend and companion, Ralph Heberle; a sister, Debra Smith of New Brighton; a nephew, Jeremy Smith; three nieces, Virginia Smith, Lynda Smith, and Melanie Morse; grandnieces and grandnephews; an uncle, Barton (Arlene) Greeley of Austin; and cousins.  

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Rex “Squeek” Greeley; a niece, Melissa Smith; and a brother-in-law, Roy Smith.  Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.

Susan J. Harmon:  Loving Mother and Sister

Susan J. Harmon, 76, of 2990 County Road 34, Richburg, NY passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 18, 1947, in Medina, she was a daughter of Norman E. and Joanne R. Gibson Sowl.  On November 25, 1967 in United Church of Friendship she married Andrew Harmon who predeceased her on July 28, 1996. 

She was a graduate of Friendship Central School.  Susie had worked for the Richburg Central School, the Richburg Colonial Library, and the David A. Howe Library.  She also cared for the elderly in their homes and cleaned houses part-time. 

Helen Ruth Caskey, 95, of Port Allegany, PA passed away Thursday (May 9, 2024) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.

She was born April 14, 1929 in Nanty-Glo, PA, a daughter of Maxwell and Alice (Leamer) Caldwell. On Oct. 29, 1950, in Port Allegany, she married Kenneth D. Caskey, who passed away in 1992.

Mrs. Caskey was a graduate of Cherry Tree High School class of 1947 in Nanty-Glo, PA.

Mr. Caskey worked as a bookeeper for the former Ford Tractor dealer in Smethport and then for Meacham’s Hardware in Port Allegany.

She was a member of Port Allegany United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by:

Margaret E. (Hackett) Zinck, 90, of Wellsboro, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at UPMC Soldiers and Sailors in Wellsboro.  She was born April 17, 1934, in Shippen Township, to Seymour and Erma (House) Hackett. 

She went to school in Wellsboro, and on February 17, 1951, Margaret married Oliver Zinck with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.  She worked as a dietician at Soldiers and Sailors for more than thirty year.

Margaret wasn’t exclusive in her church attendance, and worshipped in several local congregations, but lately had attended Victory Church in Troy when family were able to give her a ride.  She was a member of the Wellsboro Moose and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, she enjoyed meeting with her friends and driving fast, was an accomplished yodeler and dancer, was a great cook, and she loved to read the Wellsboro Gazette, had to be the first one to read the paper. 

James Robert McMeans

James Robert McMeans, 83, of Warren, PA, died on Sunday May 12, 2024, in Warren General Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Blairsville, PA, on June 2, 1940, the son of the late Edison and Elizabeth Horrell McMeans.  Jim was a graduate of Youngsville High School Class of 1958. After high school, He enlisted with the United States Army and served from 1958 through 1962. Jim worked for Sylvania Wire Department, and retired as Supervisor with Penelec. He married JoAnn Strickenberger at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Fryburg, PA in 1964.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball, bowling, and golf. He was happiest tending and growing flowers around his home. He was a member of the Warren American Legion, Warren Eagles Club Aerie # 313, Knights of Columbus, and was part of the kitchen crew for Holy Redeemer, as well as the soup kitchen at St. Joseph R.C. Church.

John P. Himchak, Jr.

John Peter Himchak, Jr., 62, of Bethesda, Maryland, died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 7, 2024, at his residence, after suffering an apparent heart attack.  John was born November 23, 1961, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late John and Ann Marie Bleech Himchak.  He was a lifelong resident of the Washington D.C. and Bethesda Maryland area.  He was owner and operator of the John Himchak Construction Company, Inc.

John was a member of St. Gregory of Nyssa Byzantine Catholic Church, Beltsville, MD

John was a kind, loving person, who always put his family first.

Betty B. Fasnacht

Betty B. Fasnacht, 92, of Warren, PA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Rouse Home.

Born on May 19, 1931, in Roaring Spring, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl Ray and Mary Myers Beegle. Betty had lived in Warren since 1984, moving to the area from Bradford, PA where she had lived for 20 years. She was a 1981 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with a B.A. in English Writing. She was employed at the Warren State Hospital for 12 years as a registered nurse, retiring on July 1, 1996. While living in Bradford, Betty was the first woman executive at the Bradford Era newspaper, working as city editor from 1970 until 1975. She also served as church organist at Grace Lutheran Church and Temple Beth El in Bradford

Betty was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and enjoyed reading, walking, and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Lois Marie Yonker, age 93, of 231 High Ave, Ridgway, PA died at her home, early Thursday morning, May 9, 2024, on the Feast Day of the Ascension of the Lord.

Lois was born January 22, 1931 and raised in Johnsonburg, PA, the daughter of the late Francis and Rita McAlee Kelly. She attended the Rolfe School thru her sophomore year and graduated from Johnsonburg High School with the Class of 1949.

On June 13, 1953, at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, PA, she married Darrell Yonker. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2015. In the late 1950’s, Darrell and Lois moved to Ridgway where they raised a family including three boys, two girls, and Lois’s younger sister. Lois was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.

Lois was employed by Stackpole Carbon Co. before starting a family, and, in later years, prepared meals at the old County Home in St. Marys, PA for the Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels Program. She was a former den mother for the Cub Scouting program and thoroughly enjoyed attending every one of her children’s Little League baseball games.

Children were a constant in her life whether taking care of her own or one of a friend or neighbor, and later, her own grandchildren. She was always happiest, and it made her Irish eyes smile, when there were children around.

Delores J. Fields, 88, of 7803 Crawford Creek Road, Caneadea, NY passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Olean General Hospital after a short illness.

Born on March 29, 1936, in Andover, she was a daughter of Glenn R. and Vivian E. Swain Cooper.  On March 29, 1958, in the Cuba First Baptist Church she married Howard W. Fields who predeceased her on May 9, 2018.

Delores had worked as a waitress at the former Belvidere Truck Stop.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of grandchildren when needed.

Michael R. Coats:  Loving Husband and Father

Michael R. Coats, 48, of 8041 County Road 5A, Bolivar, NY passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born on September 28, 1975, in Wellsville, he was a son of William Giles and Brenda Coats Bissell.  On August 11, 2001 in Bolivar, he met April Mott who survives.

Michael was currently employed as a welder for API in Arcade.

He was a former member of the Richburg Volunteer Fire Department and a current member of the Allegheny River Valley Aquarium Society. 

At home he enjoyed raising turkeys and emus on his hobby farm and was a freelance lumber jack.  He also enjoyed reading and online gaming.
