The McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF), an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Northern Alleghenies, recognized the accomplishments of the Class of 2023 by awarding 76 scholarships totaling nearly $57,500 to students within McKean county and other surrounding areas. Thanks to the substantial donations from individuals, families, and organizations, 51 scholarship funds are being administered by MCCF to benefit local students.
The recipients of these scholarships are graduating seniors from the surrounding areas. Out of the 76 scholarships; 37 scholarships went to seniors from Bradford Area High School, 34 to seniors from Kane Area High School, 3 to seniors from Otto-Eldred Area High School, and 2 additional scholarships were awarded to a student who is already in attendance at a post-secondary institution. Eleven new scholarship funds were established and awarded in 2023.

Under the direction of Mr. Adam Brooks, the Elk County Council on the Arts Summer Theater Camp presents Disney’s Frozen, JR. The spectacular 60-minute musical, designed for young performers, is based on the 2013 Disney film and the 2018 Broadway adaptation ECCOTA’s Arts Summer Theater Camp rehearsal began Monday, June 19 with over 60 students participating. Summer Theater Camp is a weeklong experience for youth entering grade 3 in the fall of 2023, through this spring’s graduating seniors.

Camp is held all week at the St. Marys Area High School, culminating in a public performance of the musical, Frozen, JR. Friday evening. The public is welcome to join us for the performance of Disney’s Frozen, JR. on Friday, June 23 at 7PM at the St. Marys Area High School Carpin Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30PM. Admission is free. The Fundamentals of Carbon Capture and Carbon Capture Flooding presentation will explore the fundamental principles of carbon capture and carbon flooding as it relates to oil and natural gas development. The principles discussed of carbon capture and carbon capture (CO2) flooding are based on research by and presented by Dr. Lanny Schoeling, who has extensive research and practical experience in the industry across North America and internationally.
This webinar will focus on the reservoir, well design, and surface facilities. Of particular interest, we will discuss the screening of locations and the economics, including the USA 45Q tax credit incentive. This webinar would benefit energy regulators and energy policymakers.

| Frito-Lay Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in Mislabeled Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar DipFrito-Lay today issued a voluntary recall of select 15 oz. Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dips that may contain an undeclared milk allergen. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. While the front of the affected jar is correctly labeled as Tostitos Avocado Salsa, the back of the jar is mislabeled with another product’s nutrition information and declarations. As a result, the allergen milk is not declared on the label. The product covered by this recall was distributed nationwide at retail stores and via e-commerce channels. Consumers would have been able to purchase the jars as early as April 5, 2023. |
RICHIN TRADING INC. OF ALHAMBRA, CA is voluntarily recalling its MINI FRUIT JELLY CUP (35.27oz. and 52.90 oz.) due to the products being a potential choking hazard based off the product size. Small jelly cups have previously been implicated in choking deaths of children.
The recalled jelly cups were distributed nationwide in retail food stores and are sold in large clear jars. Below are the products being recalled:
Cricket Creek Farm of Williamstown, MA is expanding their recall of Sophelise and Tobasi cheeses due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes to include one lot of Berkshire Bloom and one lot of Feta cheese because pasteurization records did not illustrate the heating element reached required temperature.

Part-Time CBVI Job Coach in McKean/Elk County
The CBVI job coach is a part-time position (a maximum of 29 hours/week) at an hourly rate to be determined at the time of hire. This position requires a high school diploma or GED-equivalent with preference given to associates and/or bachelors degree holders and/or those with relative experience working with teenagers or young adults. The ability to obtain Act 34, 151, and FBI clearances, along with a clean driving record is required. The job coach must complete substitute teacher training or job coach training certification, as well as first aid certification. They must also participate in the IU9’s annual in-service and quarterly CBVI meetings. Responsibilities may include light physical demands and hours may be scheduled outside of normal school day hours.
The CBVI job coach provides transportation, supervision, instruction, and assistance to students and recent graduates with disabilities in a community work setting. The job coach’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
” Daily activity logs, as well as bi-weekly and monthly assessments
” Maintenance and cleaning of assigned IU9 car
” Assist students with post-training or post-job shadow surveys
” Assist students with completing interest Inventories
” Maintain confidentiality of student records
” Communicate student progress/needs, questions/concerns from worksites, parents, school, etc. to coordinator and other appropriate staff
” Familiarize him/herself with child labor laws and safety standards

The Potter County Artisan Center in Coudersport is planning several classes over the next few weeks.
Basket weaver, Catherine Snyder, will teach students to make a Handy Tote with Shaker Tape Straps on Saturday, June 24, from 9:00am-4:00pm. Class is $45 and includes all materials in a wide range of colors.
Acrylic Painter, Theresa Welsh, is teaching a Paint-n-Sip class on 6/28 from 6:00-8:00pm. Class is $20 and includes all materials. Students are welcome to bring their own snack and beverage.
Watercolorist, Laurie Angood, will teach a “Teen Artisan Class” from 3:00-4:30 pm on 6/29. The class is for students in 7-12 grades. Cost is $20 and includes all materials.
Laurie Angood is also offering “Young Artisans” class on July 6 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Young Artisans classes are for students in grades 2-6. Cost is $20. All materials are provided.

RE: Expiration of Allegany County’s Emergency Declaration
As of June 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., Allegany County’s Declaration of Emergency concerning the migrant crisis is no longer in effect. The decision to decline renewal of the Declaration came after careful consideration and consultation with the County Administrator, County Attorney, Social Services Commissioner, and Sheriff Scott Cicirello.
We are not aware of any migrants or asylum seekers associated with New York City’s crisis entering our County, nor have we received communication from the State that any migrant placements within Allegany County are planned or imminent. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to issue a new Declaration and Orders if deemed necessary and appropriate.
