The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for… Southeastern Cattaraugus County in western New York… * Until 145 AM EDT. * At 943 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE…Radar. IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include… Olean, Salamanca, Allegany State Park, Allegany, St. Bonaventure, Weston Mills, Hinsdale, Carrollton, Vandalia, Limestone, Knapp Creek, Kill Buck and Rock City Park.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

was located 8 miles northwest of Wellsville, moving northeast at 20
mph.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
* Locations impacted include… Olean, Salamanca, Allegany State Park, Allegany, Cuba, St. Bonaventure, Weston Mills, Hinsdale, Carrollton, and Bolivar. This includes Interstate 86 between exits 17 and 28.

At 709 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Marienville, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include… Kane, Johnsonburg, Wilcox, and James City.

Quadruple Fatal House Fire In Yorkshire, NY
On September 6, 2024, at approximately 2:11 A.M., Troopers out of SP Machias responded to 3825 Creek Road in the town of Yorkshire for a single-family residential fire. Preliminary investigation reveals the fire started near the kitchen area of the residence. One family member was able to exit the residence and call 911. The other four family members were located deceased in the residence. The NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Forensic Identification Unit were assisted by NY State Fire and Yorkshire Fire Department on the scene. Multiple Fire Company’s and EMS in Cattaraugus County responded to the scene to assist.
NYSP are working with Pioneer Central School District on the status of the investigation. It is believed that some of the victims went to Pioneer Central School.
Positive identification will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office. NYSP will release the positively identified victims at that time.
More information will be provided as the investigation continues.
This is still an active investigation.
Penn College spotlight on tennis
David Straub enters his second season as coach of the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s tennis teams with optimism, thanks to several key returning players and talented newcomers.
The Wildcat men, 2-9 overall last year and 2-5 in the United East, open at 4 p.m. on Friday, hosting Lycoming College on the Brandon Park courts, while the women, 4-9 overall and 1-4 UE, open at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the first day of the King’s College Invitational. The men have four fall matches and the women seven, with United East Conference play taking place in the spring.
On the men’s side, senior Alex Norris of Williamsport returns after playing at the No. 1 singles position last fall before missing the spring season. He is joined by junior Logan Ogden of South Williamsport and sophomores Jayden Manbeck of Bernville, Matt Williams of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, Hunter Knosky of Camp Hill and Will Long of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Motorists are advised a two-year construction project continues on Route 6 and Main Street (Route 2005) in Tioga County.

The week of Sunday, September 8, 2024, the contractor will be performing base repairs on Route 6 between North Academy Street and Railroad Street and on Main Street between East Main Street and East Elmira Street (Route 1002) in the Central Business District. Work will be performed between the hours of 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM, weather permitting. Motorists can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed.

The week of Monday, September 9, 2024, the contractor will continue working on the sidewalks, ADA ramps and drainage throughout the project area. Roadway Improvement Project Continues on Route 414 and Blockhouse Road in Liberty Borough, Tioga County
Motorists are advised that a two-year roadway improvement project continues on Water Street (Route 414), Blockhouse Road (Route 2005), and Williamson Road (Route 2007) in Liberty Borough and Liberty Township, Tioga County.
The week of Monday, September 9, 2024, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, will be performing drainage work on Williamson Trail Road (Route 2007) between Blockhouse Road and Mase Road (T-800). Motorists can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours, weather permitting.
OLEAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ROBBERY OF ELDRED BANK
Following a plea hearing at the McKean County Courthouse yesterday, Edwin MCPEAK, pled guilty to crimes related to the June bank robbery at a bank in Eldred.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer confirmed that MCPEAK appeared before a McKean County Judge at a plea hearing on Thursday and entered a plea of guilty to Robbery (of a Financial Institution with use a firearm); Robbery (placing 2 victims in fear of serious bodily injury with use of a firearm); Theft from the bank; and Receiving Stolen Property (vehicle stolen from Olean, NY).
North Central board approves three business loans
The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission’s Board of Directors (North Central) approved a trio of business loans at its August meeting on Wednesday.
The board approved $372,500 in loan funding for three businesses in the six-county region that will retain a total of 10 full-time jobs and create five new jobs over the next three years.
“The Business Lending Program is working in the six-county region,” North Central Executive Director Jim Chorney said. “The three loans approved Wednesday will keep businesses open and people employed to help sustain the regional economy while helping maintain the quality of life in those communities.”
