Cameron County Chamber of Commerce is moving next month to the former Cabin Kitchen Restaurant.  The building at 24 West Fourth Street in Emporium has been a restaurant for more than 70 years.  Following a devastating fire in February 2003, the structure was rebuilt in 6 months and reopened feeding residents and travelers.  In 2022 the property was offered for sale.  The chamber will convert the property to a multi-use facility and begin the move in process October 1. 

The idea of a multi-use facility began in the fall of 2022 when the chamber was looking to relocate from its rented location.  Chamber executive director Tina Solak says the facility will focus on entrepreneurs and growth for existing businesses while promoting the county for tourism and attracting new businesses.

Penn College athletes find success

Four of eight Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams tasted victory this past week, and another saw an individual player stand alone at the top.

Men’s Golf

Senior Peyton Mussina of Montoursville posted a two-day 9-under-par 135 total and led from wire-to-wire, winning by 11 strokes and taking medalist honors at the 109-player Mountain Valley Classic.

In team competition, the Wildcats finished sixth of 20.

In Friday’s first round, played on the par 72, 6,852-yard Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Mussina was bogey-free in shooting a 68 and opening a four-stroke lead.

On the par 72, 6,748-yard Summit Country Club at Cresson on Saturday, Mussina recorded seven more birdies en route to a 67 that tied his collegiate career low as he medaled for the seventh time.

On September 6, 2024, at approximately 2:11 A.M., Troopers out of SP Machias responded to 3825 Creek Road in the town of Yorkshire for a single-family residential fire. Preliminary investigation reveals the fire started near the kitchen area of the residence. One family member was able to exit the residence and call 911. The other four family members were located deceased in the residence. The NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Forensic Identification Unit were assisted by NY State Fire and Yorkshire Fire Department on the scene. Multiple Fire Company’s and EMS in Cattaraugus County responded to the scene to assist.

UPDATE- September 9, 2024. The only living survivor of the residential fire was James T. Cook, 18 years old. The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified three of the four victims. Faith M. Cook, 12 years old, Tonya S. Cook, 15 years old and Kristina M. Kipfer, 36 years old. The fire has been ruled as non-criminal.

NYSP are working with Pioneer Central School District on the status of the investigation. It is believed that some of the victims went to Pioneer Central School.

Positive identification will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office. NYSP will release the positively identification of the remaining victim.

More information will be provided as the investigation continues.

This is still an active investigation.

 On Saturday afternoon, discover the rich history behind Cherry Springs State Park with volunteers with the PA Lumber Museum and State Park staff. Walk around the fields visiting important locations while exploring how Cherry Springs grew from a small stop on a winding mountain throughway to a robust region hosting multiple Civilian Conservation Corps Camps.

KANE – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) is reminding area seniors citizens and their family members and caregivers of the Kane Senior Citizens Expo coming up on

Friday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kane Community Center, 46 Fraley St., Kane.

“There are so many programs and services available to support our senior citizens, but it still can be difficult for people to find the help they need,” Causer said. “I hope area seniors will take advantage of the opportunity to gather a lot of helpful information in one place.”

The event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. State, county and local exhibitors will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions about a variety of issues. Health screenings will also be offered, and door prize drawings will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Causer noted he will also hold another expo on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Roulette Fire Hall.

Due to the expo, Causer’s office in Kane will be closed all day on Friday, Sept. 13. The offices in Bradford and Coudersport will remain open and may be reached by calling 814- 362-4400 in Bradford or 814-274-9769 in Coudersport.
