The Port Allegany VMI (Veterans Memorial, Inc.) invited the community to get ready for summer fun at the Summer Fest held Satruday at the VMI.  The event featured a full lineup of family friendly activities included an inflatable slide, bounce house, music and favorite foods of the summer including a chicken barbecue, hot dogs and hamburgers along with craft vendors and more.  The evening ended with a fireworks display.

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, Allegewi Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will be holding a Memorial Service to honor the 11 Revolutionary War Soldiers buried in Potter County.

The event will begin at 10:00 A.M. under the Pavilion at Potter Post 192 American Legion at Ladona.  Following the service a bronze marker will finally be placed at the gravesite of Roger Edgecomb in Lymansville Cemetery.

West Penn Power has a planned power outage in Roulette, PA, scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th, from 10 am to 3 pm

The Roulette Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, June 24th due to a town wide planned power outage.  We will reopen at 1pm on Friday, June 27th.

I-80 WB Lane Restriction in Columbia County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised of a lane restriction on Interstate 80 westbound at Exit 232 (Buckhorn / Route 42) in Hemlock Township, Columbia County, due to a vehicle crash. Motorists can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted near the interchange.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, watch for slow moving traffic, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

The first of two two-week sessions of swimming lessons are underway at the Port Allegany Community Pool.

Citation from PA House Of Representatives – At the recent Galeton Gale Hose Ambulance Volunteer Appreciation dinner held at the Old Antlers Inn, Perley Bowen (center) was honored for a 60-year membership in the association.  In photo is Martin Causer (left) – PA State Representative of the 67th Legislative District with a citation from the House of Representatives presenting it to Mr. Bowen.  Also in photo is Ken Wingo, former Captain and now a trustee of Gale Hose Ambulance, giving Mr. Bowen a plaque for his long service in the Ambulance Association. 

Richard Williams, 51, of St. Marys, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2025. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Potter County the week of June 23. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in Potter County for the coming week is as follows:

Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

• Route 144 bridge spanning Pine Creek in Galeton Borough. Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27. This work takes place off the roadway and has little, if any, impact on traffic.

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.

Manual Patching

• Route 1013 (Bingham Centre Road) between Hickox/Ulysses Road  and the New York state line in Bingham Township. Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Spectacular. Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams had multiple highlights during their record-setting 11th season as members of the United East Conference and eighth season as full-fledged members of the NCAA.

The college finished third of 17 teams in the United East Presidents’ Cup, which annually recognizes the athletic achievements of its members. The winner is determined by a scoring system that rewards success during both regular-season and postseason competition. St. Mary’s (Maryland) College took the top spot for the third year in a row, followed by Penn State Harrisburg. The Wildcats’ third place was their highest after a fourth and two sixth-place finishes.

“This is unequivocally the most successful year in Penn College history in many ways. Twelve of our sports teams advanced to the conference postseason, the department captured three conference titles, as well as had two conference runners-up. Off the field, our student-athletes finished with a combined 3.3 overall GPA for the year in the classroom and had five United East Elite 20 Award winners. Finally, our teams gave back to the community and completed just over 2,700 community service hours,” athletic director Scott Kennell said.

“To be able to watch our programs grow over time is extremely rewarding to view from my seat,” Kennell continued. “Prior to the 2022-23 season, the department had only won three conference championships. Fast forward to 2024-25 and we have amassed seven more titles in a very short period of time.

“We have some of the best coaches and staff at the Division III level and it’s beginning to show. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by such a great group of individuals who have put Penn College Athletics on the map.”

Adeline Angevine was honored Friday upon her retirement after 50 years of service as Judge of Election in Otto Township’s second district. Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) presented her with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in appreciation for her service and dedication to the Commonwealth and her community. She was also recently honored by the Otto Township supervisors and presented with a wooden plaque that was made by Otto Township Supervisor C. J. Kaluza, who is also pictured.

BRADFORD, Pa. – Kindergarten graduates from Otto-Eldred Elementary School are starting off their summer with better bike balance and safety skills, thanks to a new program brought to the school by University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students.

As any parent who’s run behind a child’s two-wheeler knows, teaching young children the balance needed to ride a bike can be challenging. Additionally, children may be afraid of falling and getting hurt or not have a safe space to practice in.

The Potter County Farmers Market will be outdoors AT OUR NEW LOCATION on the Courthouse grounds, at the corner and across the street from the square, every Friday (weather permitting) from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The 83rd Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro continues this Friday and Saturday June 20 and 21 with the two-day Juried Arts and Crafts Fair and International Street of Foods and this Saturday, June 21 with the 10K Foot Race and Two-Mile Fun Run, Laurel Parade and Crowning of the 2025 Laurel Queen.
