Ruby A. Stahl, 69, a lifelong resident of Austin, passed away with her loving family by her side on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, after a short illness.
Ruby’s final arrangements, entrusted to the care of Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, are incomplete and will be announced with a full obituary.

Gloria D. Hopkins, 94, of Dennis Lane, Bradford, passed away, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at her home.
Born July 31, 1928, in Bradford, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Dorothy (Bellamy) Wagner Jr.
She was a 1946 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On April 9, 1948, in Allegany, NY, she married Victor C. Hopkins who preceded her in death on December 13, 2016.
Gloria was employed for many years at Zippo Manufacturing Co. in the customer service department. She had also been a volunteer at the American Cancer Society.
She was a member of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church and the Faithful Sunday School Class of that church.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (the late James) Kozel, of Waterford, MI, and Judy G. Hopkins, of Bradford, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 68 years, Victor, sister, Shirley Wagner, brother, William E. Wagner Jr., and niece, Neida Wagner.
Gloria was a beloved mother and friend who supported all her loved ones with strength and encouragement. She will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, in the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Jay Tennies, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Rose A. Pire, 93, of 7 Charlotte Avenue, Bradford, passed away, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Frick Hospital, in Mt. Pleasant.
Born July 1,1929, in Bradford, she was one of ten children of the late Harold and Ena (Hardy) Ackley.
On March 31, 1944, in Bradford, she married Ronald A. Pire Jr. who preceded her in death on June 28, 1986.
Rose was a stay at home mom and she also provided child care for other children and family members.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary, and also volunteered for the Salvation Army.
Rose is survived by three daughters, Linda (Richard) Tyger, of Bradford, Judy (William) Frutiger, of Bradford, and Rhonda Dooner, of Pittsburgh, two sons Wes (Deb) Pire, of Bradford, Ronald (Kelly) Pire, of Pittsburgh, 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Leslie Pire, one daughter, Carol Thacker, six brothers, Lawrence, Clifford, Roland, Robert, Leo, and Clarence Ackley, three sisters, Marjorie McCormick, Violet Buchanan, and Anna South and her longtime companion Elmer Cirigliano.

Michael J. Iorfida, 62, of E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA
Michael J. Iorfida, 62, of E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born February 20, 1961, in St. Marys, son of the late John J. and Mary Polaski Iorfida, Sr. Mike was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1979, and was employed at Keystone Powdered Metal and Amphenol, where he was currently employed.
On June 7, 2008 at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course, Mike married Tanya L. Schrecengost, who survives.
Along with his loving wife, Mike is survived by his daughter, Jordan Iorfida (Nick) of St. Marys; his son, Zachary Iorfida of St. Marys; a grandson, Landon; a sister, Jolene Braun of St. Marys; a brother, John J. Iorfida, Jr. of St. Marys; his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Sharon Schrecengost of Mt. Jewett; his brother-in-law, Gary Schrecengost of Mt. Jewett; and his nieces and nephews: Jared, Dillon, and Raechel Braun, Brandon and Taylor Eckstrom, and Jenna Baxter.
Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Eckstrom and a brother, Kevin Iorfida.
Mike was proud of his service to his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed woodworking, brewing beer, drawing, and painting. He had a great love for music and cooking. He enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. Mike had a special place in his heart for his dogs and nothing was dearer to him than the time spent with his family.
Funeral services will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11:00AM with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

Call For Hearing; Comments Before Granting DEP Permit For Injection Well in Potter County
In 2022, the federal EPA granted an initial permit to Roulette Oil and Gas Co., LLC, for a waste injection well to dispose of production fluids from the company’s 270+ conventional gas wells. The site of this proposed injection well is in Clara Township in western Potter County.
Before reaching its decision, the EPA had given public notice and provided a 90-day period to accept public comments, followed by a virtual hearing held in February 2021. In its “responsiveness summary” to concerns raised in the comments and submitted at the hearing and also accepted in an extended comment period, the EPA acknowledged that although they had received comments concerning environmental and quality-of-life impacts (such as, noise, air, light, and soil pollution and truck traffic and impacts on roads), those matters were outside the “jurisdictional scope and purview of UIC (Underground Injection Control) regulations of the EPA’s permitting process” and were therefore not considered in the agency’s issuance of the permit. Now the final permit must be approved by PA’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which has NOT provided public notice, nor has it agreed to a public comment period or hearing. Instead, they have offered a “conference call” with a limit of two or three speakers voicing their concerns and objections to the proposed well.
A group of local citizens, the Clara Township supervisors, and members of various water protection groups, are rejecting DEP’s offer and are calling for the same public participation as was offered by the EPA. Since the DEP should and must consider impacts beyond the EPA’s jurisdiction, the public has the right to participate, particularly as the COVID pandemic required a virtual hearing by the federal agency, which likely prevented many concerned citizens from participating in that process in 2020-21.
This group of concerned citizens and stakeholders urges readers to either call DEP officials, including Acting Secretary Rich Negrin (717-705-4700); DEP Office of Oil & Gas Management Acting Secretary Kurt Klapkowski (570-327-3636); and Tom Donohue, Environmental Program Manager for District Oil and Gas Operations (412-442-4000), or use DEP’s website https://www.dep.pa.gov to contact these individuals. Ask them to provide public notice, a comment period, and a public hearing before issuing a permit for this injection well.
We can expect neither transparency nor accountability from our government agencies if we don’t demand it.

Kay S. CROLEY, 79, of Wellsville, NY, died Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Wellsville Manor Care Center.
Born May 6, 1943, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of George W. and Eva May Weber Lynn.
In 1987, in Wellsville, she married David A. Croley, who survives.
Kay was caregiver to many.
Surviving besides her husband, David, are: a son, Rusty Croley of Wellsville; a sister, Carla Fisher of St. Clair Shores, MI; a niece, Lori (John) Acker of Wellsville; and three nephews, Eldyn “Skip” (Sue) Coats of Milton, FL, Dan Coats of Wellsville, and Dennis Coats of Panama City Beach, FL.
She was predeceased by a son, Gary S. Mesler; a brother, Richard Lynn; and two sisters, Hazel E. Willard and Eleanor R. Coats.
There will be no services.

Patrick A. Kennedy, 76, of Elkland, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday March 8, 2023.
He was born January 27, 1946 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles E. Kennedy Sr. and Naomi M. Kelly. He was married to Carol Louise Evans who preceded him in death in 1979, also sons, Damian A. Kennedy and Ryan P. Kennedy and a brother Charles E. Kennedy. He later married Renee Marie Drouillard who survives.
He is also survived by sons: Ryan P. Kennedy’s Family; Mr. & Mrs. Rhett F. Kennedy and Family of Bradford, PA; Mr. & Mrs. Kevin G. Kennedy and Family of Virginia; Mr. & Mrs. Jason R. Kennedy and Family of Ohio; Mr. & Mrs. Rorick A. Kennedy and Family of the U.S. Air Force; Kiernan D. Kennedy of Elkland, PA; and a daughter, Kelly M. Knickerbocker and Family of Nelson, PA.
He was a Biology instructor at Elkland Area High School for 31 years until his retirement in 1998, and was Director of Religious Education and catechist at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Elkland for 39 years.
Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary will be recited in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 6pm on the evening prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Elkland, PA and/or St. Bibiana Church, Galeton, PA.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bibiana Church, Galeton, PA at 10am on March 17, 2023. Burial will follow in the family plot in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton, PA.

DuBois House Fire Displaces Family of 4 Overnight
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Clearfield County say a family of four was displaced following an early morning blaze in DuBois.
DuBois Fire Chief Mike Federici says that multiple crews were dispatched to the blaze at a residence along South Highland Street, around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
Authorities say the family was able to escape the fire unharmed but the house was deemed a total loss.

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Liberty Township was called to order at 8:30 A.M. by Chairman Dick Brown, Supervisor Neil Shepard, Supervisor Fred Ernst, Secretary Cindy Speeth, Mary Grace Collier-Kisler and Ed Vicic were present.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was recited by all.
REPORTS:
1. Ambulance Report for February, 2023 was presented and there were 13 calls for Liberty Township.
2. Fire report for February, 2023 was presented and there were 11 calls for Liberty Township.
3. Secretary’s Report for February 9, 2023 was presented and unanimously accepted on a motion by Supervisor Shepard and a second by Supervisor Ernst.
4. Treasurer’s Report for the month of March, 2023 was presented and unanimously accepted on a motion by Supervisor Shepard and a second by
Supervisor Ernst. Chairman Brown stated that in the General Fund there were bills paid in the amount of $24,733.96, revenues received in the amount of $4.611.32 and a balance of $105,661.69. In the State Fund there were bills paid in the amount of $6,917.26, revenues received in the amount of $201,179.11 and a balance of $250,858.86. In the Sewer Fund there were revenues received of $0 and a balance of $1434.64 which was paid to the Boro of Port Allegany. The Sewer account was closed out and from now on all of the remaining sewer customers will pay directly to the Boro of Port Allegany.

NEW BUSINESS:
Chairman Brown told the secretary to put out bids to be opened at the April, 2023 meeting. The bids will be for 1500 tons of 19 mm, more or less and 1800 ton of 9.5 mm, more or less for both FOB and delivery to Coleman Mills, Open Brook and Two Mile. The Supervisors wanted to make sure that the bid stated that the company that won the bid had enough trucks to deliver it all on the same day.
Mary Grace Collier-Kisler spoke about the 2022 library statistics report for Liberty Township. First of all she thanked Liberty Township for upping their donation to the library from $500 to $2000. Liberty Township has 608 library accounts and they had checked out 1,650 items in 2022.She said that the library is now back to pre-pandemic numbers. Also, the amounts being raised by fundraising is about the same as the amount being raised by donations. That shows that people are interested in keeping the library going and are willing to work at it.

Walter N. Carlson Jr., 71, of Reigel Road in Kane, PA passed away Monday (March 6) at the Clarion Hospital. Born Jan. 20, 1952 in Kane, the son of the late Walter and Emma Jean (Bouch) Carlson. On May 27, 1995, in Tidioute, he married Loretta Lockwood, who survives.
Walt worked as a painter for several different companies and did a great deal of work painting for the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Heidi Carlson of Warren; two sons, Tom (Carrie) Carlson of Rome, NY and Casey (Jennifer) Carlson of Loris, SC; one grandson, Noah Carlson; two brothers, John “Orson” (Melinda) Carlson of Kane and Wade (Leanne) Carlson of Tonawanda, NY; two sisters, Alice (Mike) Bizzak and Deborah Fry, both of Kane; one stepdaughter, Elaina Carlson; one stepson, Roger VonArx; ome step granddaughter, Desiree Dana of Kane; one step great-granddaughter, Lillian Dana, of Kane and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Toni Morgan and one brother, Tom Carlson.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Smash Those Spotted Lanternfly Eggs!  The invasive Spotted Lanternfly is continuing to spread across the Commonwealth and moving northward. Cameron County was added to the state’s quarantine zone last year, and a half dozen additional counties in western and central PA were added earlier this year. It is important to familiarize yourself with all stages of the Spotted Lanternfly’s development in an effort to combat its spread. This time of year, it’s important to be on the lookout for egg masses and to destroy them before the weather warms up for good and eggs hatch. Please note: Egg masses need to be smashed or permanently submerged in rubbing alcohol to kill them. Eggs that have been scraped on to the ground can still hatch, so it is important to follow proper egg removal instructions, which are demonstrated here. Officials suggest power-washing equipment and vehicles, inspecting the undercarriages of vehicles and inspecting other hard surfaces such as patio furniture, grills or play equipment. In this fast-paced 90-minute presentation, former technology director, technology facilitator and current CTC teacher, Brent Bryant, will showcase 30+ free/freemium tools to facilitate formative assessment, improve lesson engagement and streamline instructional tasks.

This session is intended for 5th through 12 grade teachers and will be offered in person on Wednesday, March 15 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office. It will also be available live, remotely via Google Meet. Participants will receive hyperlinks for resources as well as priority registration to future in-depth sessions on the presented resources.
