Lewis Lloyd Glassmire, Jr. (71) of Glenwood, MD, passed away suddenly after a cardiac event on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Lew was born on May 28, 1952, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania to the late Lewis Lloyd Glassmire, Sr. and Edythe Mabel Snyder Glassmire.  Lew was raised on his family’s farm – cultivating a love of the outdoors as well as learning the true value of working hard, a trait that he would carry throughout his life and instill in his children and colleagues. 

Lew graduated from Coudersport Area High School in 1970. As a high school student, he excelled in academics, and it was here he developed his love of sports, running track and field and playing basketball.  Most importantly, during this time he met his high school sweetheart, Victoria Karhan, who would become his wife of 46 years.   

Following high school Lew attended Penn State University and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering, beginning his exciting career in civil construction.  Marrying Vicki in 1977, together they left their hometown of Coudersport to begin their careers and start a family.  Lew’s employment allowed him to work for various companies in several states, moving from the mid-Atlantic to as far south as Mississippi. Finally settling in Glenwood, Maryland, they continued raising their four children and lived for almost 30 years. 

Jerry Robert PHILLIPS, 74, of Coudersport, PA, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024.  

Born June 27, 1949, in Coudersport, he was the son of  Robert and Berna Atkinson Phillips. 

 When Jerry was a junior in high school, his family moved to Fort Myers, FL, where he graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1967.  After high school, Jerry took a gap year and explored Australia before he came home to join the Navy.  He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1969 – 1974 during the Vietnam War.  He served on the USS Macdonough (DLG8/DDG-39) and was a diver. 

 Jerry was a lover of the outdoors.  He spent many years as a logger and providing firewood to his family and the community through Phillips Firewood.  He then started Greenhill Sugar Shack, where he made maple syrup, later with his close friend, Scott DeLong.  

Brian D. Stockman, 51, of Kersey, PA passed away at his at his home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 30, 1972, in Ridgway, a son of Rosmary Gahr (Ernie) Mattiuz of Kersey, who survives and the late Richard F. Stockman, who preceded him in death on December 31, 2004.

Brian was a 1991 graduate of Elk County Christian High School. Professionally, Brian thrived in the field of hotel management. His dedication and expertise made him an invaluable asset in the hospitality industry. With his warm smile and exceptional people skills, he built lasting relationships with colleagues and guests alike.

His love for writing carried through locally at the Daily Press and the Ridgway Record, where he worked for the last few years.  He was instilled with his love of cooking from his mom, and his travel bug that he got from his dad, is what took him all over the world.

Brian, known for his adventurous spirit, embarked on countless journeys throughout his life. From the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska to the sandy beaches of Florida and the vibrant deserts of Arizona, he truly experienced the wonders of the world. His passion for travel nurtured his soul and enriched his spirit, allowing him to form connections with people from all walks of life.  Some of his favorite adventures took him to Europe, Stonehenge, Egypt, and Amsterdam, just to name a few.

Dennis Edwin Irons passed, surrounded by loved ones, on January 12, 2024. He is survived by his devoted wife Jacque’, his son Cale, daughter Ashley, her husband Geoff and their daughters Kaelyn and Ava. Den and Jacque’ celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 1, 2023.

Denny was one of five children born to Milford and Vernice Irons on January 11, 1949 in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. He grew up with two sisters, Beverly (Rich) Groff and Mary Janette (Brad) Binder, and two brothers John (Victoria) Irons and Tim (Lesa Iovine) Irons.

Kevin Mead, age 82, of Warren, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, January 20, 2024

Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Kevin attended Cathedral Preparatory School, Canterbury School and University College Dublin.

Kevin worked as a reporter for The Erie Times News, as the publisher of the Warren Times Observer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Times Publishing Company. He was a Rotarian, founding member of the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry and former member of the Board of Representatives of WPSU, the public broadcasting station serving the State College area.

Kenneth M. “Kenny” Shelander, 49, of Loop Road passed away Thursday January 18, at Buffalo General Hospital following a short illness.

Born Dec. 20, 1974 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Kenneth J. and Florence N. Hoke Shelander. Kenny was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School.

In addition, Kenny had attended St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred and was a member of the Eldred Township Firehall. He also enjoyed working on his tractors, playing video games, shopping, driving around listening to music, and hanging out with his good friend, Chris Woods. 

James “Jim” “Poppy” Charles Mallon, age 70 of Westfield, PA passed away on January 19, 2024 at UPMC Wellsboro surrounded by his family.

Jim was born on November 12, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late John Francis and Josephine Elizabeth (Kephart) Mallon. After graduating from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1973, he worked many jobs including starting and running his own drywall business and most recently was employed by Viant Medical in Westfield.

Jim recently celebrated 50 loving years of marriage with his high school sweetheart Anna Marie Paulik. Together they raised four daughters and one son. Jim had a passion for reading, gardening, baking and deep conversation with his family and friends.

Barton M. GREELEY, 98, of Austin, PA, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Wellsville Manor Care Center, Wellsville, NY.

James Roland Scandle, 76, of Wellsboro, PA passed away at home on January 18, 2024, with his wife at his side. He was born on September 17, 1947, to Roland and Margaret (Buggy) Scandle in Shamokin, PA. He married Merry Carol (Herb) on February 5, 1966.

James was an Electrician for many years and was employed by IBEW 607. He was a member of the Galeton Moose, enjoyed hunting and fishing and cutting firewood. James had visited Tioga County since he was in high school and eventually bought a camp and built his home here.

Dolores C. “Dee” Euken, 86, of 522 First Avenue, Johnsonburg, and formerly of Elk Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA passed away early Thursday morning, January 18, 2024, at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys following an illness of the last several months. She was born in Johnsonburg on September 11, 1937, a daughter to the late James and Rose Judice Cherry. On May 3, 1958, she married Stanley J. Euken. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2006.

A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Dee was a 1956 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved to read, do crossword puzzles, crochet and later in life make trips to the casino.

In 1999, Dee retired from GTE-Sylvania in St. Marys after 35 years of service.
