Dog Missing In Cyclone PA

Thomas M. Rodgers, 74, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024, peacefully at his residence.
Born March 19, 1949, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Ruth E. (Nick) Rodgers Sr.
He was a 1967 graduate of Bradford High School, and a graduate of Paul Smith College in Lake Placid, with a degree in Forestry.
Tom worked at Dresser Manufacturing for 43 years as a machinist, he also was the head chef at Roma Villa Restaurant.
Tom loved to hunt and play poker with his family.

Danielle Lawton, a senior at Coudersport High School, Speaks To Rotary
Coudersport Rotary Club was pleased to host speaker Danielle Lawton, a senior at Coudersport High School, at their January 8, 2024, meeting at A&W West End Grill.
Danielle, the president of the Interact Club at Coudersport Jr/Sr High School, attended Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) in Maryland last summer.
She pointed out that most students didn’t know what Rotary does because a lot of schools don’t have Interact clubs.
Her first day at RYLA she learned about what Rotary is and does.
On Danielle’s second day at RYLA the 20 students attending RYLA did projects in groups of 5-6. They created posters on topics such as Recycling, Trees and Agriculture.
And on the third day they learned about life in villages in third world countries and Appalachia. They heard about their struggles and tried to come up with solutions, such as how to get water during a drought. There was also a special guest who spoke about issues in other countries, such as polio.
During RYLA, they learned about bonding, and how to be a leader. Danielle learned that you can’t lead unless people will follow. She said she learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

Olivia C. “Missy” Hartman, 97, of 30 Kinzua Avenue, Kane, PA
Olivia C. “Missy” Hartman, 97, of 30 Kinzua Avenue, Kane, PA passed away Monday (Jan. 22) at the Lutheran Home in Kane, where she had currently resided. Born Feb. 9, 1926 in Chambersburg PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy (Hinkel) Crider. She married Merle R. Hartman in Chambersburg in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts, and then attended Penn State where she received a Masters degree in Theater Arts. She received her teaching certificate from Edinboro University. She taught art and theater art in the Kane Junior and Senior High Schools for more than 20 years, retiring in the early 1980’s.
Missy was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kane, where she was a member of the choir and the Women’s Circle. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Kane Garden Club, The Kane Studio Art Group and later the Kane Creative Arts League. She co-founded the Kane Players Theater Group and was a prior recipient of the Kane Chamber Citizen of the Year award. Missy also volunteered at the Friends Memorial Library.
Albert L. Reist, 94, of Warren, PA
Albert L. Reist, 94, of Warren, PA, died Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024, at Warren Manor Nursing Home, Warren, PA., after an extended illness.
He was born August 27, 1929 in Warren, PA., to the late Charles and Mina Stoddard Reist. Albert was a lifelong Warren area resident. Albert had served with the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was a self-employed contractor building numerous homes in the Warren County area. He was a member of the Youngsville American Legion.
He is survived by his 5 children – Sherry Smith of Youngsville, PA., Robert (Bob) Reist and wife, Joan of Warren, PA., Tim Reist of Youngsville, PA., Linda Kasaback of Ludlow, PA., Cathy Yeskey of Youngsville, PA., 1 Sister – Mary Chapel, of Warren, PA., 8 Grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Berlin Reist who died June 5, 2021, whom he married January 16, 1954, at Whig Hill, Forest Co., PA., 2 Brothers – Robert and Richard Reist, 2 Sisters – Rose Reist, Barbara Cook 1 Granddaughter – Casey Reist.

Linea L. Simons, 70, of Shinglehouse, PA
“beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother”
Linea L. Simons, 70, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Wednesday, September 16, 1953 in Lackawanna, NY, she was a daughter of Vergil S. and Alyene O. Karr Smith. On November 25, 1972 in Shinglehouse, she married Howard P. “Scuff” Simons, who survives.
Linea was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1971 in Shinglehouse. She later attended Williamsport Community College and later the University of Pittsburgh in Bradford.
Linea was employed by the former Olean American Tile Plant in Olean, NY, AVX Corporation in Olean, Cutco Corporation in Olean where she was a line worker, and by the former Dr. Clark’s Veterinary Office in Portville, NY. She was later employed in the Mental Health Unit at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean and lastly as a waitress at Perkins Restaurant and Friendly’s Restaurant, both in Olean. Linea also babysat many local children in town, they all loved her!!
Linea was a former member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of the former Shinglehouse Volunteer Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary. She loved riding her Honda trike with her husband, Scuff. She also loved scrapbooking and traveling, the most memorable being their trip to the redwoods in California and all points in between. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially with her great-grandchildren.
Causer, Dush Announce $15.5 Million Funding for Shinglehouse Wastewater Treatment Improvements
HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) and Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) today announced nearly $15.5 million in funding for Shinglehouse Borough’s ongoing wastewater treatment plant improvements.
The funding comes in the form of a $5.99 million low-interest loan at a term of just 1%, as well as a $9.5 million grant. Both the loan and grant were awarded by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) at its meeting Wednesday.
“This is a necessary investment in public health, as well as the health of our infrastructure systems in Shinglehouse,” Causer said. “It is so important to ensure our communities can properly treat their wastewater to protect our clean water supply. I was pleased to support this funding.”
“As is the case in most rural communities, meaningful and sustained economic recovery begins with adequately funding and maintaining a safe, reliable and clean water and sewer infrastructure,” said Dush. “I am confident that Shinglehouse Borough will apply both this grant and low-interest loan as investments toward responsible environmental stewardship, to ensure a healthier ecosystem and safeguard the well-being of aquatic life. By qualifying for this highly competitive state financing, Shinglehouse Borough will be able to significantly upgrade the sewer wastewater treatment plant and meet the water quality needs of their community for years to come.”
The borough is entering the second phase of its plan to make necessary upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility, which includes installing essential treatment equipment. Upgrades included a new grit removal system, clarifiers, effluent pumps and controls, and a new pre-anaerobic reactor tank. The existing chlorine contact tank will be structurally rehabilitated with concrete and an epoxy coating system. Also, a new headworks building will be constructed as part of the project.
The wastewater treatment system serves 531 households in the borough and three in Sharon Township.
Since its inception in 1988, PENNVEST has served communities and citizens by funding sewer, storm water and drinking water projects across the Commonwealth. PENNVEST funding does not come from the state’s General Fund budget, but through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state, as well as proceeds from Act 13 of 2012, the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee.

The Office for the Aging has an immediate need for volunteers willing to deliver Meals on Wheels in the Alfred/Almond area. As a volunteer, you would receive a meal on the day you deliver and you can be reimbursed for your mileage.

Linea L. Simons, 70, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Donald R. “Bear” Dalrymple, 65, of Coudersport, PA
Donald R. “Bear” Dalrymple, 65, of Coudersport, PA passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at UPMC-Cole.
Bear was born on July 19, 1958, in San Mateo, CA, the son of the late Linda Dalrymple.
Bear worked many years for Level 3 as a computer programmer and later worked for Ithaca College. Bear was a member of Gospel Tabernacle, Coudersport and enjoyed playing guitar and riding his motorcycle. Bear was also a Pastor in Texas and helped at various churches in the Coudersport area.
Bear is survived by a brother, David Hickey of Lathrop, CA; and close friends; Pastor Joe Gerhart of Karthaus; Roxanne Bencardino of Austin; and Pastor John and Gina Minor of Coudersport.
A celebration of Bear’s life will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 6:00 pm, at the Gospel Tabernacle, 420 Route 6 West, Coudersport, with Pastor John Minor, officiating.

The PA Department of Health, Emergency Medical Services Office, licenses air and ground ambulances and certifies quick response services. Every 3 years each agency must go through licensure renewal, which consists of an application process and on site inspection. AVFD completed this process today and successfully renewed our license for another 3 years!
