Seniors 2 Seniors Program
The Seniors 2 Seniors technology course is being offered in Galeton on Wednesdays, April 17 – May 22, 2024., from 12:45 – 2:15 p.m. The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 10th. Register yourself, a parent, or grandparent by calling (814) 274-4877 or by stopping by the Potter County Education Council office at 5 Water Street in Coudersport.
The Potter County Education Council, Tri-Co Connections, the Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging, and our local school districts are continuing to team up to implement a county-wide program called Seniors 2 Seniors. This program teaches basic computer skills, digital literacy, and cybersecurity to senior citizens so that they have the skills and knowledge to utilize the many benefits of high-speed Internet. As a part of this program, local high school students volunteer to provide on-site support to each of the adults who participate in the course.

On March 16, 2024 Coudersport Area School District in partnership with the Coudersport Area School District PTSA held its third annual scholarship fundraiser. This year’s fundraiser was hosted at the Coudersport American Legion Post 192. The Legion’s event room was graciously donated for the evening. Attendees were able to purchase tickets that included a fantastic buffet dinner catered by Frosty Hollow or were able to attend and participate in only the raffle and auction portion of the evening. All attendees enjoyed musical entertainment provided by Dana Daisley.

ERIE – Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) is proud to announce a collaboration with the National Association of Insurance Professionals, Inc. (NAIP) to launch a virtual insurance agent training program. The inaugural session will begin on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Learners will receive a thorough education on the topics necessary for Occupational Licensing and Credentialing exams in Property and Casualty insurance and Life, Accident, and Health insurance. They will also earn a Help Desk Professional designation during the program. Additional skills students will develop during this program include sales and marketing basics to find new customers and provide insurance literacy; preparation and presentation of quotes for auto, home, business, and life insurance; and the claims handling process, which includes how to enter claim information and practical knowledge for walking a customer through the process.

Tony Ruby, an energy engineering technology major at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, watches as campus police officers Danelle Deasy and Dave Cox inspect his bicycle. Campus Police held a Pedestrian and Safety Day on Tuesday to encourage safe habits. In addition to checking bikes, campus police and officers from other departments conducted child safety seat checks, performed license plate legibility checks, and gave students a chance to try out a DUI simulator.

The Rotary Club of Port Allegany put “fun” in fundraising with a unique event held Saturday, April 6, at the Veterans Memorial in Port Allegany. A Night at the Races, emceed by Jason Christopher, from Acclaim Productions, LLC, featured horse races on high definition DVD. The proceeds are used by the Rotary Club to support projects throughout the year. The Rotary Club contributes to youth programs such as RYLA, the S. W. Smith Library, the Senior Center, PACS, the Recreation Authority, United Way, community events, Care for Children, and many organizations within McKean County and beyond. Andreano, 75, of Port Allegany, who passed away on Thursday (July 20, 2023), will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 1 PM at the Veterans Memorial Home, Rt. 155, Port Allegany, with the Rev. Goodyear Hose Company of Galeton recently held their Appreciation dinner for members and guests at the Galeton VFW. In photo is Susan Paisley representing PA state representative Martin Causer. She is shown congratulating Ken Wingo who received a citation from the PA State of Representatives for his 60 years of service with Goodyear Hose Company. In addition, Mr. Wingo received a plaque from the Chiefs of Goodyear Hose Company. In addition, service awards were given in increments of 5 years to members along with various special awards.

At 3:49 PM on Tuesday, Eldred Twp. Fire & TLC Ambulance were dispatched for a pickup truck/small school bus accident at the Barnum Road/Rt. 346 intersection.

Kevin C. Allen
Kevin C. Allen, 69, of Irvine, PA, passed away on Monday, April 8th, 2024, in the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House.
Kevin was born January 28, 1955, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Claud and Marquerite (Brown) Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Michele Massa Allen, whom he married on July 10, 1976. He is also survived by his Son and daughter-in-law, Chad, and Sierra Allen and their two daughters, Ella, age 10, and Maggie, age 7. Kevin and Michele could always be seen together enjoying the same activities and making lasting, loving memories together.
Kevin had many in laws that were like siblings to him and shared so many memories with: Toni (Chuck) Loomis, Sam (Gayle) Massa, Pete (Laurie) Massa, Renee (Skip) Sperry, Anne (Martin) Rich and many nieces and nephews.
Kevin was employed with the National Forge and Ellwood National Forge for 43 years. He made some wonderful lifelong friends through work.

Port Allegany–Charles “Sonny” Nathanial Olmstead, 84, of Port Allegany, PA passed away on April 8, 2024, at Olean General Hospital, from a short illness.

Alice L. (Hepler) Deter, age 91, of Wellsboro, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024. She was born on August 8, 1932 in Ringgold, PA, a daughter of the late Carl and Aldine (Powell) Hepler and was the loving wife of Francis “Frank” Deter, Jr. for 65 years.
She was a retired manager for the Fairfax County Virginia Library Administration and was a member of the Wellsboro United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Fly Fishing with Frank and traveling with friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She dearly loved her rural home near Wellsboro, PA.
