Philip M. Kio, 99, of Kio Rd., Port Allegany, PA passed away Friday (Jan. 12, 2024) at his home.
Born July 22, 1924, in Coudersport, he was a son of Byron J. and Etha V. Hayes Kio. On Dec. 4, 1971, he married Leah Rae Whitney, who survives. They were married 52 years.
Philip was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1942.
He was longtime farmer and was employed with North Penn Gas Co. for many years before his retirement.
Philip was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post 192, Coudersport, and Moose Lodge #460, Port Allegany.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists in north central Pennsylvania are advised the restrooms at the Interstate 80 westbound and eastbound rest areas in Columbia County are temporarily closed due to a power outage in the area.
The restrooms will reopen once power is restored. Parking is still open to motorists.

Rockie L. Stuck, 75, of 3408 County Road 8, Town of Wirt, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at home.
Born on December 9, 1948, in Cuba, New York, he was a son of Robert and Glenita Foster Stuck.
Rockie was a graduate of Bolivar Central Schools Class of 1967. Upon graduation he entered the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War from January 31, 1969 until being discharged October 19, 1970.
He had worked for a short period of time for Clark Brothers in Olean. He then went to work for various telephone companies while living in Santa Fe, Texas and retired from Verizon after 30 years of service.

Melvin “Junior” Blauser, 74 of Blauser Dr. in Westline, PA passed away Thursday (Jan 11) at Penn Highlands Dubois.
Born Oct. 4, 1949 in Kane, he is the son of the late Melvin and Mary (Skok) Blauser. On March 15, 1969 he married Rose Marie “Pug” Hulings, who preceded him in death.
Junior served in the US Marines during the Vietnam War. He then returned and worked at Kane Manufacturing for many years. While there he worked for the union and served as union president for a while. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandkids and nieces and nephews. He was also a member of the VFW in Mt. Jewett and the Marine Corp League.

Peter H. Smith, 86, of Warren, PA, passed away at Kinzua Healthcare on Friday afternoon, January 12 at 3:12 as the school dismissal bell rang one last time. He was born on March 3, 1937, in Meadville, PA, and grew up in Saegertown, PA. He was the son of the late Kenneth A. and Frances Pickens Smith.
Pete was a 1955 graduate of Saegertown High School. He then attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1959 and a Master of Education in 1965. He would go on to work, until his retirement, for the Warren County School District as a classroom science teacher at Beaty Junior High School from 1959-1993.
Beyond his role as an educator, Pete was a proud member of the Warren community. He was a congregant of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees. He was a Warren Borough Council member from 1974-1985 and worked on the Home Rule Transition Committee and the Borough Police Pension Fund. Pete served on the board of directors at WACOPSE Federal Credit Union for 25 years and on the Ruth M. Smith Center board for 12 years. He officiated PIAA football for 25 years. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Warren. He served also on the Rebuild Together Board, Youth Volunteer Corp / Advisory Committee, Warren County Education Association, and PA Association of School Retirees.

Louise Poole, 76, of East Warren Road, Custer City, PA passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s residence.
Born April 23, 1947, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Betty (Steinhauser) Coldren.
She was a 1965 Graduate of Bradford High School.
Louise was employed at Zippo Manufacturing for many years.

Patrick Stewart Fargo, 59, of Bradford, PA passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Olean General Hospital, after a long illness.

Port Allegany – Helen E. Tronetti, 83, of Smethport, formerly of Coudersport, PA passed away Friday (January 12, 2024) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
She was born July 23, 1940 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Cowan) Main.
Helen was a graduate of Cameron County High School and had worked at GTE Sylvania before working as a home health aide in her later years of employment.
Helen was a member of the Coudersport Senior Center, loved to read, do puzzles and spend time with her grandchildren.

Funding that was raised in 2023 will be distributed via grant awards to eligible nonprofits in 2024. The St. Marys Area United Way board members are scheduled to meet with United Way grant applicants January 16, 2024 through January 19, 2024 at the United Way office located on 250 Depot Street, St. Marys. The board will determine grant allocations and vote on awards at their annual meeting on January 25, 2024.
The St. Marys Area United Way relies on the contributions from companies and local individuals. Those donations support the financial needs of non-profit agencies that serve the health and human welfare needs of our community. It may be the dead of winter, but spring has sprung — at least for the Pennsylvania College of Technology esports season.

Getting underway this past week were the college’s spring Collegiate iRacing League teams competing in Formula College World Championship and Collegiate Prototype Challenge.
Managed by Austin DeLong, of Pittsburgh, the team also consists of Michael Sydor, of Reading; Ryan Bannan, of Honey Brook; Zach Tallman, of Lewisburg; Robert Miller, of Pittston; and Michael Martinetti, of Saylorsburg.
Openers down the road are CIL NASCAR on Monday, Rocket League on Feb. 5, Overwatch 2 on Feb. 6, Valorant on Feb. 7, Counter Strike 2 (CS2, previously CS:GO) on Feb. 9 and League of Legends on March 5.
Playoffs are scheduled for April.

The state competition for selecting the 2024 PA Fair Queen will be a 3-day event commencing Thursday, January 18 and culminating with the Coronation banquet and ceremony on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
The PA Fair Queen State Competition is held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF) and Pennsylvania Showmen’s Association (PSSA) convention events. There will be 59 young ladies vying for the title! Good Luck, Eva, and have a great time!

At 9:30 PM on Saturday, Coudersport Ambulance has been called to Skyview Lane for a hemorrhage.

On January 13 at 5:32 pm Jay Twp. Fire and Bennetts Valley Ambulance were dispatched to Rt 555 for a two vehicle crash with airbag deployment and injuries
1st Presbyterian Church of Coudersport will not be having service on Sunday, January 14, 2024 or service on Facebook due to the cold weather.

On January 9, 2024, at approximately 11:09 a.m., Troopers from SP Amity responded to a report of a motor vehicle in a ditch on Moss Brook Road in the Town of Friendship.
Investigation determined that a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on Moss Brook Rd. in the Town of Friendship on snow-and ice-covered roadways when the vehicle of the vehicle exited the roadway striking an embankment.
The operator, Leslie M. Blouvet, 37, of Friendship, NY, was pronounced dead at the scene. The only passenger in the vehicle, a 40-year-old female who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to the Jones Memorial Hospital for treatment.
This is an ongoing investigation.
