(McKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania: June 6, 2024): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that an investigation into a bank robbery is in progress.
The suspect has been taken into custody and there is no danger to the community.
Earlier today, officers were alerted to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle out of NY. Subsequently, they were notified that an Eldred bank had been robbed and the vehicle description given by witnesses matched the description of the stolen vehicle earlier reported.
An Officer observed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop and led police on a high-speed chase before crashing the vehicle near Rew Hill.
Officers with Smethport, Port Allegany, Pennsylvania State Police, Bradford City Police, Foster Township Police, and Bradford Township Police responded along with City of Bradford Fire and Ambulance crew and the City K9. The investigation is ongoing by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Robert James Kalacinski, “Bob”, age 44, of Gaines, PA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 3, 2024.
Born May 27, 1980 in Wellsboro, he was the son of Robert A. Kalacinski and Kimberly (King) VanGorder.
Bob graduated from Galeton High School and served in the US Air Force. He subsequently achieved numerous advanced professional certifications and was the Vice President of Data Management Professional for Genesis Global, being one of five in the country with his expertise, Commander of the Galeton VFW, a Brother Free Mason, member of Galeton Moose Lodge and American Legion.
Bob was a locally loved, self-taught Pit Master, wanna be sushi chef, avid fisherman and outdoorsman, professional procrastinator, he was loved by all as a husband, father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. Bob would light up a room with his “Woo!” the moment he walked in. He could start a friendly conversation with anyone. He is cherished by friends, family and coworkers.

At 10:11 AM on Thursday, Coudersport Ambulance was dispatched to Whitney Creek Road for a woman fallen.
Around 9:50 PM on Wednesday, Stations 10 & 20 along with ambulances 10 & 5 were dispatched to the area of Rt 6 near roadside rest for a one-car crash. Chief 10 responded with command. Rescue 10, engine 10, engine 20 and utility 20 responded. Mt.Jewett Volunteer Fire Department

There were no injuries and MA5 was able to return.
Assisted by PSP and Flickerwood towing.

At 9:45 AM on Thursday, Rew Fire Dept & Bradford City Ambulance were dispatched to dead man’s curve on Rt. 46 (Bradford side) to assist PSP at a vehicle crash. Instructed to stage at top of hill and await instructions.
10:04 AM–Proceed to scene. While we have found no update from police on incidents in Olean, Portville & Eldred, social media comments on our page indicate this may be a Olean Public Works truck that was stolen at gunpoint at Franchot Park in Olean, reportedly robbed a credit union in Portville and a bank in Eldred. Officers were closing in on the suspect about the time this crash was reported. Schools were being notified to lock down when scanner reports shortly after this accident was reported indicated the suspect was in custody.

On June 5, at 9:55 pm Mt. Jewett and Hamlin were dispatched to the Road Side Rest on Rt. 6 in Hamlin Twp. for a one vehicle rollover crash into a ditch with no entrapment.

Once Upon A Crime, The Trial of Goldilocks, by Robert Chauls and Joseph Robinette opens on Thursday, June 13th at 7:00pm at The Warehouse Theatre in Wellsboro. Bonny E. Oaks, 86, of Bradford, PA entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
She was born on February 23, 1938 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Albert and Luella Keys Troutman.
She attended Bradford Area Schools.
On April 28, 1967 in Limestone, NY, she married Marvin W. Oaks who preceded her in death on May 29, 2006.

Helmuth VanHarte
Helmuth VanHarte, 80, of Warren, PA, died on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Warren General Hospital after a fall.
He was born on January 25, 1944, in The Hague, Netherlands, and was the son of the late Henricus Wilhemas Marinus and Anna Viktoria Zarzetzki.
Helmuth served with the Dutch Army and was a medic. In 1966, he moved from the Netherlands to the United States and was very proud of his American Citizenship which he received on Aug 6, 1999. Helmuth was a beloved beautician and the owner and operator of Casa Bella Boutique. He was an accomplished Figure Skater, and a lifeguard in the North Sea. Helmuth had a passion for life and loved celebrating it, he never met anyone who wasn’t his friend. Helmuth was an avid world traveler, visiting every continent and, numerous countries. He loved all animals, and those animals sensed it. Helmuth was very active with volunteer work with the WGH, receiving a 2000-hour pin, and also volunteered with Hospice of Warren County.our pin with Hospice of warren county

Patrick Joseph Black
Patrick Joseph Black, 78, of Russell, PA and formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice Residence, Warren, PA.
Born March 30, 1946, in Warren, PA, the son of Lester and Mary Taydus Black, he graduated from Youngsville High School in 1964, Edinboro State College with a B.S Education in 1968, and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1971, with a M. Ed. He resided in the Youngsville area until college graduation. He married Susan Rockwell Black on June 11, 1966, and they moved to Sugar Grove in 1968, where they raised their family together. He moved to Russell in 2010.
Pat was a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Youngsville American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Warren and Knights of Columbus in Youngsville. He was a member of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Youngsville, where he served as a member and past president of the pastoral council, taught religious education and served on other committees. He enjoyed many years of playing in softball, bowling and golf leagues.
Pat was proud to be a mathematics teacher at Eisenhower High School from 1969 through 2001, spending his entire 32-year teaching career there. After retirement, he continued to tutor students for many years. While at Eisenhower he was Senior Class Advisor, Student Council Advisor and Math Department Chairman. He also served on many committees for the Warren County School District. In addition to the classroom and academics, he was a dedicated and successful coach, winning several league titles. He coached Girls Basketball for 16 years, Girls Softball for 14 years, starting the team in 1972, and also coached Boys and Girls Bowling at Sugar Bowl Lanes in Sugar Grove. He was a PIAA softball umpire for many years after coaching softball.

At 5:11 PM on Wednesday, Mansfield Fire Dept. was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 17,000 block of Rt. 6. Homeowner says no fire but didn’t have password. On-scene reports nothing showing. RECALL by Chief 2.

At 4:35 PM on Wednesday, Roulette ambulance was dispatched to North Street.

At 4:30 PM on Wednesday, Wellsboro Fire & EMS was dispatched to Central Ave, & Pearl Street for a 2-vehicle crash. Unknown if injuries.
