Elk County, PA — At a recent St. Marys Area United Way board meeting, Jason Gabler, a board member and owner of Advantage Metal Powders, presented a generous corporate donation on behalf of the company. This donation was accepted by United Way President Jim Ryan, Vice-President Doug Bauer, and board members Rob Oleary, Erica Hayes, John Dippold, and Mark Saline.

Advantage Metal Powders, based at the intersection of Route 948 and 219, three miles south of Ridgway, PA, manufactures virgin and remill powder metal blends for both the automotive and non-automotive sectors. Through its corporate giving program, Advantage supports the St. Marys Area United Way, enabling employees to make monthly contributions via payroll deduction. In a further show of commitment, owner Jason Gabler matches 100% of all employee contributions to the United Way, underscoring the company’s dedication to local philanthropy.

The Ridgway Borough Charitable Fund, under the management of the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF), recently awarded $13,649 in grants to four non-profit organizations. The Ridgway Borough Charitable Fund, an endowed fund, was established from a gift received from the estate of Sara-Jane Stackpole. The purpose of the fund is to provide support to organizations that contribute to the quality of life of the residents of the Borough of Ridgway.

An advisory committee made up of Ridgway community leaders and residents is appointed by the Board of Directors of ECCF to review grant applications and distribute grants each year.

The following organizations received grants during the 2024 granting cycle: Dickinson Center to supplement the Elk County Prison Library’s non-fiction/reference/resource book selection; Ridgway Borough for an ADA compliant swing at O.B. Grant park; Square One for a safety railing at Ridgway House to Home store; and the Salvation Army for quarterly distribution of essential household items and personal care kits.

Organizers of the annual Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run wanting to grow the event now adding the option for a team of three to compete in the 50k.  The event in 2025 will be held October 18 and continue to offer a short, mid and long distance trail run through the Elk State Forest.

The Leadership Cattaraugus Scholarship Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation will be accepting applications from local leaders interested in joining the 2025 Leadership Cattaraugus cohort.

Applications will be accepted until January 1.

This scholarship provides financial assistance to individuals who live or work in Cattaraugus County and are participating in the Leadership Cattaraugus program. The scholarship, which awards up to 30% of program tuition, aims to support emerging leaders committed to making a difference in their community.

Gauge Crawford is our Student of the Week for the week of November 11th, 2024. Gauge is a first-year automotive student from Port Allegany, who’s shown outstanding dedication and enthusiasm for the trade. He consistently approaches each task with a strong work ethic, is always ready to dive into hands-on learning and tackles challenging concepts with curiosity and determination. His interest in automotive work shines through as he eagerly contributes to class discussions, asks insightful questions, and demonstrates a willingness to go above and beyond. Gauge’s passion for the field and proactive approach to learning will help him succeed in this program and in the workforce.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) has been elected by his peers to serve as secretary of the House Republican Caucus for the upcoming 2025-26 Legislative Session.

“I ran for office to advocate, first and foremost, for the people of Tioga and Bradford counties, but for us to be successful, the entire Commonwealth must be also,” Owlett said. “I am honored by the opportunity to help lead the House Republican Caucus in advancing policies that support our children, our families and our job creators here and throughout Pennsylvania.”

The position of caucus secretary is responsible for recording all official legislative activities that take place in the House of Representatives. Informally, the caucus secretary also helps mentor newly elected lawmakers throughout their first term in office. Finally, as a member of the leadership team, Owlett will also play a role in developing the caucus strategy and agenda.
