Robert Wayne Lyle, 89, of Wellsboro, went to meet his Savior on Thursday morning, May 29, 2025, at The Green Home, Wellsboro. He was born June 2, 1935, in Houston, TX, the son of the late Robert “Bobbie” Lyle, Jr. and Linna L. (Carpenter) Lyle and would have celebrated his 90th birthday on Monday. He married the former Naomi Fay Moses on November 23, 1956, and celebrated 65 years of marriage until her passing on August 4, 2022.

The seasons are somewhat mixed up this year for Galeton. This year we had March in April with windy cold weather plus some snow .

In May we experienced April showers and very cool days.  Perhaps May flowers will show up in June.  

Morning temperatures were mainly in the mid-forties with a few low 50s thrown in. Afternoon readings were mostly in the 50’s and mid 60’s. There was a lot of cloud cover.

May had 18 days with measurable rainfall 6.48″ was measured. Last year we received 5.38″  We had 11 foggy mornings and three thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service reported that statewide it was one of the wettest Mays on record.  A few weeks ago southeast Pa. was experiencing drought conditions and they were dealing with flood warnings this week.

Pine Creek looks very good. Many boaters are in the water and fishing is good. I understand there are still some large tagged trout swimming around. Of course the grass is growing nicely. That pleases those who enjoy mowing. Driving around the county this morning it looks like the county is mowed very well.  Just like you would see on a golf course.Watch for June flowers.Henry W. May 31 Update: Embankment Stabilization Project Next Week on Route 660 in Richmond Township, Tioga County

5/31/2025 UPDATE: Work on this project has been extended into Monday, June 2, 2025.  

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a portion of Route 660 will be closed next week in Richmond Township, Tioga County, for an embankment stabilization project.

AR (Accelerated Reader) Awards were presented  during the annual Awards Assembly at Port Allegany High School.  Making the presentation was English teacher Matt Lawton.  

Senior recipients were Aidan Clark with 1479 points, Lily Madison with 1496 points, Willow Sauers with 1623 points, Thomas Beeson with 2203 points and Grace Finn with 5643 points.   Underclassmen awards were presented to Aliyah Bennett in 7th grade; Breah Fillhart in 8th grade; Mallory Johnson in 9th grade; Madison Dinch, in 10th grade and Kendra Meade in 11th grade. 

The Port Allegany High School Annual Awards Assembly was held Friday at the school with principal Marc Budd serving as Master of Ceremonies.  Athletic Awards were presented to Ella Moses, Carson Neely, Juuso Young, Aidan Clark and Lily Madison. 

Break The Chains will be holding their first Chicken BBQ Fundraiser at the Shop N Save parking lot in Port Allegany.  Meals are $12 each and include:
1/2 Chicken, baked beans, Macaroni salad and a roll.  All proceeds benefit Break The Chains Coalition and their fight against drug and alcohol addiction and self harm and suicide awareness and prevention.  Organizers are willing to deliver locally and also as far as Roulette and Eldred.  Those interested in this service should email the Coalition at breakthechainsfestival@gmail.com by Friday evening.  Pictured (left to right) Mandy Miles-Rudolph, Heath Rudolph, Parker Rudolph, Aiden Barkefelt, Lynn Keck and Oliver Grebbien.  

Memorial Day Services were held in Port Allegany with a Bridge Ceremony for those lost at sea, followed by a service at the VMI Pavilion. 

The Brooklynside Bridge ceremony was led by Chuck Yeager with Roy Kio and the Port Allegany Honor Guard and Dan Dzubak dropping flower petals into the water to remember those lost at sea.  .  

The ceremony at the VMI was also led by Chuck Yeager and included the Port Allegany Honor Guard.  A roll call was done,  remembering the following:

The Eastman Award is given in memory of Lloyd and Dolores Eastman to two graduating seniors at PAHS who fit this description by Bryan Scavnak:  Some kids are smarter than you, Some kids have cooler clothes than you.  Some kids are better at sports than you.  It doesn’t matter…You have your thing, too.  Be the kid who can get along.  Be the kid who is generous.  Be the kid who is happy for other people.  Be the kid who does the right thing.  Be the nice kid.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Eastman were graduates of Port Allegany High School.  . They lived their lives being generous, being happy for others and doing the right thing.

The Pastor Randy Headley Memorial Award for Community Service is presented in memory of Rev. Headley who served in the U.W. Marines and worked in sales before entering the ministry in 1991.  He served United Methodist churches in the Kane District including Port Allegany and Roulette. 

PAHS Fine Arts Awards were presented to members of the Class of 2025 at the Annual Awards Assembly.  The Art Award went to Riley Painter; Senior Band Award  to Conner Briggs and Aidan Clark; Band Front Award,  Jersey GAmet; John Philip Sousa Award went to Raelin Meacham;   Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, Lily Madison; Fred Waring Choral Director Award, Grace Finn;  National School Choral Award, Aidan Clark and Raelin Meacham; Senior Chorus Award, Josh Veilleux and Lily Madison; Senior Drama Awards, Aidan Clark and Lily Madison; June Dunn Performing Arts Award of $500 presented by the Port Allegany Women’s Club,  Bradford Creative & Performing Arts Scholarship of $750, and Robert B. JoAnn C. Dudash, 83, of 440 Eben Road, St. Marys, passed away with her family by her side, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Penn Highlands Elk.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.

Roxanna L. Marino, 73, of Warren, PA., died Tuesday morning, May 27, 2025, at John & Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, PA., after an extended illness.  Family and friends will be received Friday, May 30, 2025, from 2 to4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA.  A complete obituary will be announced.

Golf Tournament Set

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 18^th annual golf tournament on June 12 at the Emporium Country Club.  Teams will tee off at noon shooting for skill and cash prizes. 

For the past several years, the chamber has streamlined registration.  Golfers pay one price and receive all the perks.  Executive Director, Tina Solak explains golfers go into tournaments paying a registration fee, then must pay for extras.  The chamber tournament fee includes a stuffed chicken breast dinner, 2 drinks during the round of golf, cart, golf, 50/50 ticket, skill and cash prizes, mulligan, red tee and skins.   The fee is $80 a person.  Registrations are available at Emporium Country Club, or the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce office.

Four Port Allegany Gator Baseball players have been selected to the Northern Allegany League All-Stars.  Pictured (left to right) Kellen Veilleux, second base, sophomore; Derek Smith, pitcher/center field, senior; Aiden Bliss, third base, junior; and Nick Wilfong, pitcher/shortstop, junior.  The Gators are coached by Rick Veilleux.  

Ella Moses and Carson Neely were named Athletes of the Year at Port Allegany High School during the annual Awards Assembly held at the school last week.  Ella received the David Lacher Memorial Award/Female Athlete of the Year.  Ella participated in volleyball for four years, lettering all four years and was named an Northern Tier League All-Star three years in a row in grades 10, 11 and 12.   As a member of the Lady Gator basketball team for four years, Ella joined the 1,000 point club during her senior year, was named an NTL All-Star for three years and NTL MVP for two consecutive years, was named a Big 30 All-Star for three years and was named the Big 30 Player of the Year in 2025.  She was also selected as a District IX All-Star.  Ella has signed her commitment to the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Women’s Basketball team.   She will be  pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.    Ella is the daughter of Chad and Jennifer Moses.  Carson received the Thomas Taylor Memorial Award/Male Athlete of the Year.  Carson is the son of Craig and Carra Neely.  He has been a wrestler for four years and during that time placed fourth, fifth and eighth in the state of Pennsylvania.  He was named a Big 30 All-Star two times for wrestling and the AML Wrestler of the Year.  He has served as captain for three years.  In football, Carson lettered four times, was a captain for two years, was named a YDL line of the year two times and is a two-time All-State Offensive lineman, two-time region lineman of the year and two-time Big 30 lineman of the year.  Carson will attend Clarion University to further his education and wrestling career.   

McKean County Finance Director

McKean County is seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for a full-time Finance Director located in Smethport, Pennsylvania.

Under the direction of the County Commissioners, primary responsibilities of this position include: develops the County budget through projection of incoming revenues and expenses, ensures proper cash flow and appropriate expenditures, adjusts the budget as necessary, confirms maximum reimbursements have been received, ensures invoices and refunds are properly coded, as well as many other related duties.

Minimal Requirements:

• Associate’s degree in business.
• Bachelor’s degree in business management or accounting preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in budgeting and general accounting.

Special Requirements:

• Ability to learn County software programs, operations, structure, and law as applicable to the position.
• Ability to implement public administration, and office management practice and procedures.
• Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret fiscal data; be able to project, estimate and forecast fiscal trends.
• Payroll knowledge preferred.
