Last week in review: The cross-country teams closed out their season, the women’s basketball team won two games and at 4-0 continued its best start since the 1998-99 team started a program-best 6-0, the wrestling team had one individual champion at an invitational, and a dozen Wildcats received United East Conference postseason recognition, including 10 in soccer with two Rookie of the Year honorees.

For the men in an 8K race, Holden Furey, of Williamsport, placed 150^th among 218 with a time of 29:57 to lead the Wildcats. Also, Chase Ebeling, of Bellefonte, was 159^th in 30:16, Mitchell Campbell, of Riegelsville, was 165^th in 30:32, Jacob Parker, of Weatherly, was 176^th in 31:12, Ben Heym, of West Chester, was 186^th in 31:51, Ethan Knapp, of Franklin, was 188^th in 31:55 and Aaron Guerrisky, of South Williamsport, was 189^th in 31:58.

Lea A. Ehrensberger, 85, of Bucktail Road, St. Mary’s, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Elk Haven Nursing Home surrounded by the love of her family. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that design team personnel will start field surveys and data collection along the Recommended Preferred Alternative of the State College Area Connector Project starting the week of November 17. The information collected will be used to develop a geotechnical drilling program to identify subsurface ground conditions for the design and permitting processes.

Dolores M. “Dolly” Buerk, 87, formerly of S. Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

She was born on September 30, 1938 in Rosemantown (Near Sykesville), PA, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Angelina Assalone Angeletti.

Enrichment students from IU9 middle and high schools visited the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Friday to preview the Penn-York Undergraduate Research Association Conference. During their visit, students viewed research posters, attended undergraduate presentations by Pitt-Bradford students, and took part in activities that included an art walk with Courtney Mealy, a fossil walk with Dr. Adina Frantescu, and demonstrations by Dr. Ryan Meyers (chemistry), Dr. Robin Choo (forensic science), and Jeremy Callinan (virtual reality) . Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that its Centre County Maintenance Organization will repair concrete, railing, and install safety delineators on a Route 322 bridge spanning Route 45 approximately three miles southeast of State College in Harris Township on Monday, November 17, and Tuesday, November 18. This work will improve ride quality over the bridge, extend its service life, and enhance safety for motorists.

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) placed a radar-controlled speed display board this week on Route 322 in Bradford Township, Clearfield County. It is intended to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit and reduce speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

HARRISBURG – Reps. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) and Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming) today issued the following statement in support of House passage of the 2025-26 state budget:

“This is a forward-looking budget that makes the changes necessary to set up our Commonwealth for success in the future. For far too long, economic and job growth in the state have been hampered by poor permitting practices and policies like the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) that significantly increase the cost of doing business here.

“At a time when energy costs are rising and demand is increasing exponentially, our Commonwealth has the resources necessary to meet the region’s energy needs. By removing Pennsylvania from RGGI and requiring timely and efficient consideration of air and water permits as part of this year’s budget agreement, we now also have the policies in place to fully capitalize on our energy potential. These changes will unleash opportunities for new construction, manufacturing, data centers and family-sustaining jobs here in the Northern Tier and across the Commonwealth.

“We are also encouraged by the additional funding to expand school choice opportunities by doubling the amount for scholarships for students who attend economically disadvantaged schools. Our kids only get one chance at a good education, and we need to make sure options are available to them.

“This budget also aims to ensure benefit programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are going to those who truly need it while also protecting our taxpayers who fund the programs from fraud and abuse.

“No budget is perfect, and we would have preferred a lower amount of spending, but governing requires negotiation, especially in a divided government like ours. With the policies included in this budget agreement, we are poised to boost our energy industry, improve education and grow the economy for current and future generations.

“With this year’s budget more than four months late, the process for next year’s plan is already underway. As always, we will be a strong voice for rural Pennsylvania.”

The Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center is offering a Pennsylvania State approved motor vehicle inspection course for passenger cars; light trucks; motorcycles; medium/heavy trucks; and buses. This program includes classroom and hands-on instruction. Participants must provide a valid driver’s license to register for this program.
