The Allegheny Mountain Little League Major Division teams will participate in a series of games beginning 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and will culminate in a championship game, Sunday afternoon. Seeding for the tournament was randomly determined by the league officials. Double-elimination tournament brackets will be utilized.
How fitting for The Galeton Athletic Association to host Allegheny Mountain’s tenth annual tournament. Galeton Pennsylvania is home to Larimer & Norton, a Hillerich & Bradsby company, the makers of the world-famous “Louisville Slugger” baseball bats. According to Hillerich and Bradsby executives, if you want great wood for bats, you have to go to northern Pennsylvania. Truckloads of maple or ash arrive at the Larimer & Norton mill where logs are laid out on the ground, measured, and examined to see if they’re bat-worthy. After the logs are graded for bat quality, they are sawed into blocks. The wood then makes its way into the mill where Larimer & Norton’s laser-guided boring machine cuts the blocks into three-inch wide cylinders called billets. After a drying process in huge kilns, the billets are ready for their transformation into bats. For that step, they must head to Kentucky.
Come to Galeton for Allegheny Mountain’s tenth annual tournament. Experience the “crack of the bat” along with the Little Leaguers who may be holding a piece of Northern Pennsylvania pride, a product of Galeton, Pennsylvania, a wooden bat, for the first time.
The Allegheny Mountain League is comprised of local youth baseball associations representing Galeton, Genesee, Knoxville, Ulysses, and Westfield. The League is part of Pennsylvania District 15 of Little League International.
