Diana Marie (Dean) Smith, of Galeton, PA
Diana Marie (Dean) Smith, of Galeton, PA, born March 4, 1945 to Mary Jordan and Ronald Dean Sr., passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024.
Diana was born in Port Allegany, PA, where some of her most treasured memories were made in the garden with her Grandpa Fred. She was later raised on Germania Street in Galeton. Her childhood days were largely spent in nature marveling at the birds and playing down by the river with her best friend, Lucille. She kept that wild spirit into adulthood and never stopped finding beauty in the outdoors. She was married to, and divorced from, the late Roger Smith. Diana was, at heart, both fiercely independent and a steadfast caregiver, who loved spending time with others.
She was also an unofficial historian who never forgot a name, a face, or a story. She could call to mind a tale to fit any moment, whether to make you laugh or bring comfort in a time of need. Those who knew her will remember her anytime they tell a story, throw a party, or eat a pickle, knowing her’s certainly would have been better.
She is survived by her children, Pam Romaneo, Bryan (Denise) Smith, Raymond (Michelle) Smith, and Thomas (Wendy) Smith, as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, her sister, Nancy (Frank) Carlson, her brother, Ronald Dean Jr., and many friends and extended family.
Services will be held at the family’s convenience. Memorial contributions may be made to The Gatehouse Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Galeton
