Mary Jo (Weber) Green, 87, Of St. Marys, PA
Mary Jo (Weber) Green, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 14, 2024, following a short illness.
She was born June 15, 1937 in St Mary’s, PA to Luke and Laura Wehler Weber.
On January 23, 1965 she married the late Robert Lamar Green, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2018.
She is survived by two daughters; Mary Kelly (Dale) Elder of Mt. Lebabon and Mary Marsan (Kevin) O’Leary of St. Marys, by her four beloved grandchildren- Montana, Bryce, Grace and Sydney. She is also survived by one brother; Anthony (Eileen) Weber of Delaware, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary Jo was preceded in death by a sister; Martha “Marti” Brock.
In her young adult life, Mary Jo lived in Melbourne, FL where she played the vibraharp- an instrument she is well known for in clubs throughout Florida while holding down a day job in Cape Canaveral. Mary Jo, or “Josie”, as her husband would call her, helped him open their first funeral home in New Bloomfield, PA where the couple successfully built a business together in their adopted town. They had two daughters- Mary Kelly and Mary Marsan and she became a Licensed Practical Nurse while raising her girls and tending to the funeral home. Wanting to be nearer to family, the couple sold their business in 1977 and moved back to their beloved hometown of St Mary’s, where Bob joined his dear friend John Lynch, Jr. and their namesake, Lynch-Green Funeral Home, is still in existence today.
One of her favorite bands to play with included Meco Monardo of Johnsonburg, PA, writer and producer of the album Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk which allowed her to rub elbows with the likes of Morgan Freeman, Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer! She shared her musical gifts freely at local charitable events, churches, schools, weddings and funerals and her home was always filled with the beautiful sounds of her piano that she played by ear since the age of 2. Mary Jo was also a mother to many of her daughters’ friends who would stop by often just to see her.
She loved hosting parties and card club (although she never played cards, she just enjoyed hosting her friends). “GiGi” as her grandchildren call her, was a master at making up games and playing game show host, jumping on beds and providing sugary snacks all before their parents returned home. One of her life’s greatest accomplishments was being a grandmother, she adored her four grandchildren. Most of the town knew her as one of the “Golden Girls” of Memorial Pool, where she and friends had a “standing reservation” in one of the prime social spots. She now joins Barb and Puggie in their heavenly beach chairs for sure!
