Doris L. Hannah, 93, of Bradford, formerly of Emery Towers
Doris L. Hannah, 93, of Bradford, formerly of Emery Towers, passed away Wednesday September 11, 2024, at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born February 4, 1931, in Shippenville, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and M. Louise (Hartle) Uhl. She attended Bradford area schools until the tragic death of her mother in a car accident. While staying with relatives in Clarion she met and married Chester L. Hannah on May 10, 1947. They were married for 26 years until his sudden death on January 29, 1974.
Doris was a homemaker raising three children and keeping a meticulous home. After her husband’s death she went back to school receiving her GED as the oldest and top student.
She was never afraid of hard work, her first job after obtaining her GED was working as a housekeeper at the Bradford Hospital. After a layoff she trained with VNA as a visiting nurse and eventually worked with families as their home health aide. She enjoyed helping her elderly families.
Doris enjoyed birdwatching and could identify almost every kind in the area. Her next joy was listening to music, most kinds, especially country and classical. As a young girl she listened to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the radio and continued to be a Pirates, Penguins and Steelers fan.
Her greatest joy was getting calls from her three grandsons talking about anything from their family updates to world events. She always had an opinion and didn’t mind sharing it.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna (the late Thomas) Garin of Pittsburgh, and Sharon (Liz Wolfe) Hannah of Allegany, NY, and one son, Larry Hannah of West Virginia; three grandsons, Jason (Mary) Hannah; Sean (Susan) Garin and Ross (Sarah) Garin and nine great grandchildren, Grace, Madeline Hannah, Michael, William, Connor and Piper Garin and Gina, Preston and Adam Garin.
