Norman L. “Deb” Haight, 90, of 527 High Street Johnsonburg, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 10, 2024, at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a lengthy illness. He was bon on March 1, 1934, in Johnsonburg, a son to the late R.W. and Laura Belle Shaffer Haight. On September 23, 1958, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Valerie “Val” Golebieski and she survives.
A lifelong resident of the area, Deb lived most of his life in Johnsonburg and was a 1953 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Cursillo Movement. He always enjoyed spending time doing activities with his family and grandchildren, he had been a coach for Knothole for many years, he loved hunting and fishing and making his own maple syrup. He also served two separate terms on the Johnsonburg Boro Council, on one of which he served as the Vice President.
Deb retired in 2000 after 19 years as the manager of the Johnsonburg Kwik Fill gas station. He has also been the owner/operator, along with his wife and Dee Polaski, of the Town and Country Restaurant for many years at its different locations in Wilcox and Johnsonburg. He had also worked at PennTech Papers for 13 years and Stackpole Carbon Co. in Johnsonburg.
Deb was a peacetime Army Vet serving as PFC from 1956 to 1958.
In addition to his wife Val at home, Deb is survived by his children Dr. Joel Haight (Janet) of Houston, PA, Kirk Haight (Kristin) of McKeesport, Chris Haight (Dr. Teri) of Irwin, David “Hawk” Haight (Melissa) of Johnsonburg, Jeff Haight of Wilcox, Zoe Anne Klusacek (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL and Rachel Jacobs (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL, grandchildren Drs. Aubrie and Joe Rafferty, Taylor McCalley (Chris), Cody Haight (Alicia), Nathan Haight, Marcus Klusacek (Annie), Zane Haight, Kara Haight, Jenna & Dr. Aaron Stenta, Danielle Haight, Justin Haight, Cole Haight, Abbey Haight, Emily Haight, Brittany Haight, Sydney Jacobs, Olivia Jacobs and Lillian Jacobs and his great-grandchildren Avery, Rhoda, Kiren, Murphy, Emmalynn, Lincoln, Iyla, Dahlia, Gem, Rhett and Rowan.
He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Arthur, Milliard, Paul, Richard “Dick”, Robert “Bob” and Donald “Don” Haight, sisters Doris in infancy, Virginia Griener, Maxine McAlee and Lois Haight, grandson Matthew Haight and daughter-in-law Melissa “Missy” Haight.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Norman L. “Deb” Haight will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Friday September 13, 2024, at 10 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
