John R. Dick, 88, of Grant, PA
John R. Dick, 88, of Grant, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 5, 2024, following a brief illness.
He was born on January 6, 1936 in Benezette, a son of the late Seibert and Martha Harrison Dick.
On July 12, 1958, he married the late Joyce Foster, who preceded him in death on September 27, 2002. On August 9, 2010, he married Donnell Sidelinger Overturf, who survives.
John retired from Burke Brothers after more than 40 years of service. Having lived his whole life in the Bennetts Valley area, John enjoyed nothing more than spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening, always proud of the produce he grew and loved to share it with family and friends. He was a longtime member of the May Hollow Sportsman’s Club, where he looked forward to spending time with friends. In his younger years, he could often be found throwing horseshoes or bowling, and never turned down the chance to go to the polka dances with his wife.
In addition to his wife, Donnell, he is survived by five children; Denise (Steve) Heldman of Charleston, SC, Valerie (David) Schatz of Bath, PA, Joseph (Karen) Dick of St. Marys, David (Karen) Dick of Newport, VA, and Amy (Scott) Klaiber of Weedville; by nine grandchildren; Nichole, Elizabeth, Derek, Christopher, Austin, Caleb, Mya, Jared, and Mark and by three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a step-son: JD (Suzanne) Overturf of Grant, seven step-grandchildren; Caitlyn, Jessica, James, Dakota, Tony, Daniel, and Michael, several step great-grandchildren, by one sister; Janet Gates of Helena, MT, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, John was preceded in death by a step-son; Mark Overturf, one brother; Bill Dick, and by three sisters; Dolores Runk, Cecil Kellogg, and Jean Dick.
A Memorial Service for John R. Dick will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Lynch-Green Funeral Home with Rev. Missy Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.
