Mary Eileen Horton Calhoun (nee Anderson), age 89, died July 17, 2024, in Wetumpka, Alabama, where she resided with her son Dan.  

Mary was born August 14, 1934, in St. Marys PA, to Richard and Madeline Kranking Anderson of Johnsonburg. Mary graduated from Hershey High School in 1952, where she was a popular cheerleader and athlete. The following year she married Filmore Horton, and together they raised three children. Mary later married Larry Calhoun, a happy union lasting 33 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard “Dick” Anderson, as well as both of her husbands.  

“Mamie” is survived by her three children; David Horton of Hueytown, AL, Daniel Horton and his wife Patti of Wetumpka, AL and Eileen Horton Smith and her husband Scott of Milford, PA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren; Katherine Horton Haynes (Brandon), Shannon Smith Brown (Jeffrey) and Matthews Smith (Amber), as well as five great grandchildren; Quinn Brown, Caiden Brown, Alexander Smith, Hadley Smith, and Beau Smith. 

Mary was an avid cross-stitch artist, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved any time spent with her family, friends and dogs. At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton she was an active member of the parish and enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen, especially the annual Easter egg rolling.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Eileen Horton Calhoun will be conducted at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Johnsonburg, PA,  on Thursday August 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as Celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.

Local arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 401 Chestnut Street, Johnsonburg.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the ASPCA at www.secure.aspca.org or your local shelter.
