FREE OUTDOOR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES TO FEATURE DROWSY MAGGIE THIS FRIDAY, JULY 26
This Friday, July 26 at 6 p.m., the free outdoor summer concert series will feature Drowsy Maggie performing a mix of Americana, old-time, folk, bluegrass and Celtic music, both instrumental and vocal arrangements, on the outdoor stage at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. The outdoor stage is located on the Central Avenue side of the building.
Audience members are welcome to bring lawn chairs and sit on the grassy area in front of the outdoor stage or on Central Avenue, which will be closed to traffic between Main Street and the Warehouse Theatre from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Friday.
If weather becomes an issue, this free concert will be moved indoors into the Deane Center’s Coolidge Theatre. Donations are always appreciated.
Drowsy Maggie is composed of five musicians. Danny Shipe and Molly Cary are both lead and harmony vocalists with Cary on guitar and Shipe on guitar and banjo. Daria Lin-Guelig plays hammered dulcimer and concertina. Bruce Smith is on upright bass and Dave Driskell on flute, clarinet and whistle.
“We will be performing many songs that are new to us,” said Lin-Guelig. They are: “One Horse Town” by Blackberry Smoke; ”If I Needed You” by Don Williams and Emmylou Harris; “Listen To The Radio” by Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle; “Last of My Kind” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit; “The Mason’s Apron” by The Chieftains and Matt Molloy; “Cousin Sally Brown” by Charm City Junction; “Fishers Hornpipe” by the O’Connor Band and Mark O’Connor; and “I Could Drive You Crazy” and “Years” by Sierra Ferrell.
Other songs they plan to do are “Oh My Love” by The Small Glories; “The Witch of the Westmoreland“ by Stan Rogers: ”Canary” by Joy Williams; “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift; “White Bird – It’s A Beautiful Day”; “Jerusalem’s ChoIr” by Kane’s River; and “Wellerman – Sea Shanty” by Nathan Evans. “We will also perform other old favorites in addition to many new instrumentals,” Lin-Guelig said.
The other four concerts in the free outdoor series on Fridays at 6 p.m. are: August 2 — The Hey! Makers, a ramped-up acoustic Americana trio with Joshua Roth on bass guitar; lead vocalist Kris West on guitar and banjo; and Dave Loomis on percussion, playing a toe-tappin’, thigh-slappin’ mix of country, rock and roll, bluegrass, and soul; August 9 — The Wildwoods, a folk/Americana trio from Nebraska; August 16 – solo artist Logan Route on guitar; and August 23 – Cold Chocolate, Ethan Robbins on guitar and mandolin and Ariel Bernstein on drums and banjo;
