North Country Voices Offers the Anne McCleary Piano Scholarship
In the loving memory of Anne McCleary, the members of North County Voices have established the Anne McCleary Piano Scholarship. Anne was a beloved friend, a gifted musician and an accomplished piano accompanist. She served as the accompanist for the North Country Voices for eighteen years.
Anne was also a valued member of our community, serving as a dedicated church musician. The piano scholarship has been established to be awarded to a Potter County high school graduate who is pursuing a career in music with piano as the student’s major instrument.
It is a great honor and pleasure for us to present this award for the first time to Elizabeth Crawford, a most deserving recipient. Elizabeth, a graduate of Northern Potter High School, has been accepted at Houghton University. She will be majoring in Music Education with the piano as her major instrument.
She chose as her audition piece the first movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Opus 2 No. 3 and performed it brilliantly from memory. In addition to receiving a scholarship in the amount of $500.00, Elizabeth was fortunate to receive treasured classical piano literature which had been a part of Anne’s music library.
North Country Voices is greatly appreciative and indebted to the members of our community who have generously donated money specifically to the scholarship fund or contributed a monetary donation at one of our recent concerts. It is our hope to continue offering this scholarship as a memorial tribute to Anne and to help encourage and support our youth who have chosen to follow a similar career path in music.
