SCAM ALERT: Owlett NOT Soliciting Police Donations
WELLSBORO – Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) is warning area residents of a fake robocall claiming it is from him and asking people to donate in support of the police.
“I never recorded this message or authorized this call in any way,” Owlett said. “While I certainly support our law enforcement officers and any legitimate efforts to raise money on their behalf, I implore anyone who receives this call claiming to be from me to immediately hang up and report it to your local police department.”
Owlett learned about the robocall from a constituent who received it and then contacted his office to verify it. The voice claims to be Owlett and sounds just like him, according to the constituent. The caller asks for credit card information to take the donation.
“I am outraged that someone would use my voice to try to take advantage of people’s generosity toward our hard-working law enforcement officers,” Owlett said. “We have reported this incident to our state and local police and county sheriff’s offices.”
If anyone else received the call and gave the caller their credit card information, Owlett urges them to immediately call their credit card company to report the incident.
