Coudersport Rotary Club Press Release
At our April 1, 2024, Coudersport Rotary Club meeting at A&W West End Grill, Rotarian Todd Brown introduced his sons Viggo and Xander Brown.
Last year Rotary donated funds towards Xander Brown’s Eagle Scout project. He was building picnic tables for Mitchell and CARP parks.
Xander thanked us for our donations which paid for three of the tables he made.He ultimately raised $2,000 and enlisted 11 volunteers. Five tables he made went to Mitchell Park and five to CARP Park.
Viggo Brown is now an Eagle Scout candidate. As his Eagle scout project, he is disassembling, refinishing, and reassembling shelves donated by a local business to hold bins of food and snacks donated by an organization called CHOP (Child Hunger Outreach Project).
Last year CHOP provided over 12,000 students in PA with daily access to an in-school pantry. Over 50% Of Coudersport area school district’s students qualify for free or reduced cost lunches. In 2021 our county had the second highest rate of child food insecurity in the state at 14.8%. Food insecurity is defined as the condition of not having access to sufficient food, or food of an adequate quality to meet one’s basic needs.
Viggo is looking for a small donation for repair of the shelves, with a goal of $250. The shelves will go in the Coudersport Jr/Sr High School library, so students can get food discretely and bring it home to their families. This project needs to be finished by late June and before school is out on May 31.
Thank you Xander and Viggo for your contributions to our community and for telling us about them before Coudersport Rotary Club!
