Route 49 Closed By 2-Vehicle Head-On Crash

At 6:00 AM on Wednesday, Westfield Fire Dept. and EMS have responded to a 2-vehicle head-on crash on Rt. 49 in Westfield Township. Entrapment & injuries are reported to 2 adults and one child. Air medical is requested on standby.

Section of Route 49 Closed Due to Accident & Icy Bridge

WESTFIELD, PA – A serious two vehicle head-on crash with one vehicle rolling over at the intersection of East Main Street and Route 49 around 5:50 AM.
Fire personnel was on the scene of the crash in just minutes. There were three confirmed injuries, one person was reported to have serious injuries.
The bridge in that area was reported icy and Route 49 was requested to be closed down prior to 6:00 AM and PennDOT crew was requested to treat the surface of the bridge as soon as possible.
Westfield and Knoxville crews were said to have crews on scene working together.
A medical helicopter was requested to be on stand by.
Two medic units also responded to the scene.
Three injuries have been reported, as crews worked to extricate one person from the first vehicle. The one person was extricated from the vehicle around 6:12 AM.
Route 49 was finally reported shut down at 6:18 AM as firefighters were able to get to each end of the roadway were they could redirect traffic and keep that section of the roadway closed.

All medical helicopters were grounded due to weather. So all patients that need treatment will need to be transported by ambulance. Around 6:36 AM Sabinsville ambulance headed out to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, with the patient that was extricated from one of the vehicle. The other two patients are a mother and child who suffered minor injuries and were being transported to Guthrie Corning Hospital around 6:43 AM.
PennDOT crew arrived on scene to treat the bridge surface at 6:44 AM.
Crary Hose Company and Knoxville-Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department will be on scene for some time. Route 49 is still closed. and school buses will have to use alternate routes to pick up and deliver school students today. School buses may be delayed at getting to pick up locations and delayed at dropping students off. Numerous attempts to the school district was made without success.
