Gary W. Schul, 85, of Clay St. in Kane, PA passed away Sunday (Feb 18) at UPMC-Hamot. Born July 14, 1938 in Arkansas City, KS, he is the son of the late Wayne Schul and Doris Price. On Sept. 7, 1963 in Kane, he married Lynda Swanson, who survives.
Gary was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1958-1966, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After leaving the service he worked for Stackpole Carbon Co., then as Director of Maintenance and Building Services at the Kane Community Hospital, and then was employed by Kane Screens.
In a life marked by public service, Gary served his community as a Borough Councilman since 2014 and also served as the Emergency Management Coordinator in Kane since 2018. He devoted countless hours to the Kane community and forged important partnerships through his active involvement with the McWAPEC Counties Borough Association and Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott (Linda) Schul of Warriors Mark, PA and Lance (Ann) Schul of Littleton, CO; one granddaughter, Annika (Drew) Dellert; three grandsons, Emilio Schul, Trevor Weddell, and Zach Schul; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Dellert. He was beloved by this family and worked tirelessly to provide for them.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gail Schul and one sister, Carolyn Massey.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation which will take place on Thursday (Feb 22) at Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane, PA from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A second time of visitation will take place on Friday (Feb. 23) at Tabor Lutheran Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 with the Rev. David Pflieger and the Rev. Scott Schul officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
