Robert D. Magnuson, 91, of Park Ave. in Kane, PA passed away Sunday (Jan. 7) in the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born July 11, 1932 in Kane, he is the son of the late Dwight and Alice (Alexis) Magnuson. On Oct. 3, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett, he married Josephine Frattali, who survives.
He graduated from Kane Area High School in 1950 and was a member of both the football and basketball team. He then attended Upsala College. Following college he served in the US Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bob was a telephone technician and worked for Bell of PA, Bell Atlantic and Verizon prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church, the Northwest Savings Bank McKean County Advisory Board, the Kane Rotary, the Mountain Laurel Council Telephone Pioneers of America, the Kane Masonic Lodge #566, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a life member of the Kane Elk’s Lodge #329, and a director at First Federal Savings and Loan Assoc. He also served on the board at the Lutheran Home at Kane and Highpoint Foundation, the Kane Area School Board, the Kane United Way, the Kane Community Hospital and the KASD Building Authority.
He was a long time member of the Kane Country Club and more recently the Villages Golf Course in Florida. Bob was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns He enjoyed attending 13 Super Bowl games with friends.He also was a member of the Villages Polo Boosters and attended all the Polo games played while living 17 winters in the Villages. He enjoyed working in his yard, and most of all he enjoyed just spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Thomas (Tracy) Magnuson of New Albany, OH a granddaughter, Julie Alexis Magnuson, a grandson Kent Robert Magnuson, one aunt Kay Magnuson and several, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and LeRoy Magnuson.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday (Jan. 12) at the Cummings Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until noon. A memorial service will begin at Noon with the Rev. David Pflieger, officiating.
