Ellicottville, NY Man Charged in McKean County
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that an Ellicottville, NY man has been charged with ramming a vehicle into a Pennsylvania State Police vehicle occupied by two troopers and leading police on a high-speed chase into New York.
Patrick Fuhr is charged with several counts of Aggravated Assault, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, Resisting Arrest, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and several other offenses for the chase that occurred early Tuesday morning when Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle driven by Fuhr.
The criminal complaint, filed by Trooper Bradley Walters of the Pennsylvania State Police-Lewis Run barracks, charges Fuhr with accelerating at a high rate of speed and failing to stop the vehicle after the Troopers initiated lights and sirens while attempting to initiate a traffic stop.
The complaint says that Fuhr refused to stop the vehicle for the pursuing Troopers and pulled the vehicle into the parking lot of Valu Home Center.
While the Troopers travelled on the roadway in front of the parking lot, Fuhr exited the parking lot and struck the police cruiser, causing damage to the vehicle.
Fuhr then is accused of continuing the pursuit at a high rate of speed down various streets, overtaking other motorists, and entering State Route 219 into New York while reaching approximate speeds of 120 mph.
Once in New York, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department deployed spike strips, puncturing the tires of the vehicle. The vehicle continued for several miles with other law enforcement agencies assisting.
Fuhr was taken into custody by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department and is currently being held on those charges. An arrest warrant has been issued for his arrest on these charges by Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther.
