Hamilton-Gibson’s Winter Theatre Arts Camps in Elkland is for third through ninth graders who reside in the Northern Tioga School District and attend public or private schools or who are home-schooled.
Offered free due to a generous grant from the Deerfield Charitable Trust, the camp will be at the Clark Wood Elementary School at 110 Addison Hill Road In Elkland for 12 days beginning Wednesday, Jan. 17, and continuing on selected dates through Thursday, Feb. 1 with Pay-What-You-Can performances for the public at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2 and 3.
Campers will present the musical “Junie B. Jones JR,” a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s best-selling books created specifically for Broadway Junior performers.
Auditions for the Elkland camp will be at the three Northern Tioga District elementary schools. Immediately after school, auditions will be on Monday, Jan. 8 at R. B. Walter Elementary School at Tioga Junction; on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Clark Wood Elementary School in Elkland; and on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Westfield Elementary School. Role selections will be made following the auditions.
“Junie B. Jones JR” features many lovable characters and fun-filled songs. This musical will capture the audience’s and performer’s hearts just as the books captivated an entire generation of students.
Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store. Junie’s best friend Lucille has found new best friends and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament, and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.
Each camper will receive a free tee shirt, script, rehearsal CD, and instruction.
The campers will be taught choreography, how to project their voices when speaking and singing, and how to create a character – all while having fun.
Registration forms for the Elkland camp are available at schools in the Northern Tioga School District, online at the HG website, hamiltongibson.org, or can be obtained by calling the HG office at 570-724-2079 or emailing hamgib@gmail.com.
