WILLIAMSPORT CITY JAZZ ORCHESTRA TO PRESENT HOLIDAY JAZZ CONCERT AT THE DEANE CENTER IN WELLSBORO THIS SATURDAY, DEC. 16
This Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m., the Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra is presenting its popular Holiday Jazz concert at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
Audience members are encouraged to reserve a table, bring their own favorite beverages and snacks and sit with family and friends to enjoy the music at this BYOB concert. There will be room for dancing.
The concert will open with the orchestra playing “Good Swing Wenceslas” and Suezie Cioffi singing holiday favorites, such as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Let It Snow,” “Everybody’s Waitin’ For the Man With the Bag,” “Santa Baby,” “Jingle Bells,” or “White Christmas.”
The orchestra will perform “Coventry Swing” and “Lo! How a Rose E’er Blooming” and then give a premiere performance of Shorty Roger’s “Swingin’ Nutcracker” and music from Duke Ellington’s “Nutcracker Suite.”
The orchestra’s 18 members include three men and two women on alto, tenor and baritone saxophone, four men on trumpet, four men on trombone and a guitarist, bassist, pianist, drummer and vocalist. They are alumni of the Glenn Miller Big Band, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the Buddy Rich Band, and many other famous jazz bands.
The orchestra plays an exciting variety of big band tunes, from the popular and familiar to obscure and new sure to appeal to all.
