Darrell E. (Sonny) Henry, age 83, Wellsboro, PA
Darrell E. (Sonny) Henry, age 83, died on December 7, 2023 at Valley View Nursing Home.
Born April 15, 1940 in Blossburg, PA and raised in Charleston Township, he was the son of the late Wayne Henry and Anna (Wagner) Henry. Darrell was the very beloved husband and soulmate of Susan (Wetmore) Henry for 42 years.
Darrell graduated from Wellsboro High School in 1958. Then he went into heavy construction with his dad, eventually becoming a diesel mechanic, then Master mechanic and sometimes equipment superintendent. He worked construction all over the United States and for many years, Susan went with him. He always was passionate about his work and loved his bulldozers and tractors.
He also loved making sauerkraut. It started with his dad. Together and with help from family and friends, they made over 2000 pounds of sauerkraut most years. It was a great hobby for him, as was wine making.
Darrell and his wife also did much retired traveling all over the lower US and Alaska. They rode Harley motorcycles together, and he was an avid hunter and re-loader. He loved entertaining in the beautiful home that he built. He was an excellent woodworker and talented carpenter. The ladies loved to watch him dancing and he was great at it. He also was a Patriot Life member of the NRA.
Darrell is survived by his wife, his children, Kevin (Amy) of Ft Worth, Texas, and daughter, Julie Henry of Wellsboro, step-children Dawn Luce (Chris) of Kensington, Connecticut, Randall Shuey (Manuela) of Epsom, New Hampshire, and Raymon Shuey (Tammy) of Waterbury, Connecticut, grandchildren Matthew, Grady, Sadie, Lucy, Allyson and Christine Henry, Eric and Tim Mosher, Emily Nichols, Sarah Poulin, Catherine Deming and step-grandchildren Chelsea, Evan and Aidan Shuey
Nothing brought him more pleasure than his great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his much-loved son, Gregory Henry, and his two sisters, Gloria Krum and Beverly Baldwin.
