Virginia Lee Phillips, 81, Former Kane Resident
On October 24, 2023, Virginia Lee Phillips went home to be with her Lord. The youngest of 6 children, she was born on November 29, 1941, to Lawrence and Virginia McCracken of Wellsville, NY. On September 5, 1960, she was united in Marriage to Richard “Dick” Phillips who survives.
Dick and Geannie moved to Kane, Pa. where they worked and raised 3 children. Geannie was an accomplished musician and vocalist with the “Broken Strings” band.
While in Kane she also worked at Walker’s Printing, The Kane Republican, Stackpole, the Hillcrest Restaurant, and as an EMT for the Kane Ambulance Service.
In 1985 they moved to LaVergne Tennessee where Geannie worked with computers at Thomas Nelson Publishing until her retirement.
She was a member of the LaVergne United Methodist Church where she served on the Church Board, Choir, Food Bank, and the Homeless Ministries. Geannie was a loving and committed servant of the Lord, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was deeply loved. Her humorous and loving personality will be forever missed.
Geannie is survived by her husband of 63 years, daughter Brenda Phillips Baker of Kane, Daniel Phillips (Shelley) of Old Hickory, Tenn., and Barbara Syvertson (Greg) of Suffolk, Va.; 7 grandchildren: Kyle Baker, Kalli (John) Rook, Daniel Baker, Dylan Phillips, Dustin (Nicola) Syvertson, Austin Syvertson, Houstin (Alex) Syvertson; 5 great-grandchildren: Chloe and Jackson Baker, Brady, Quinn, and Owen Rook. Also surviving are a sister Gloria (Max) Shay and a brother Lawrence (Marva) McCracken and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Beverly, Shirley, and Mary.
There will be no services at this time. The family plans a celebration of life at a later date.
