Loving Father and Grandfather
Jerry L. Garmong, 69, of 16 High Street, Friendship, NY passed away October 18, 2023 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 14, 1954, in Cuba, he was a son of George and Florence Hull Garmong.
Jerry was a graduate of Friendship Central School, Class of 1972. While in high school, he enjoyed playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. He later graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
For 31 years, he worked for Allegany County in the Employment and Training Department, the last 11 of which he served as the Executive Director.
Jerry was a 39-year member of the Sons of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168, a member of the Allegany/Cattaraugus STEM Committee, served as President of the Friendship Sports Booster and the Allegany County Youth Bureau, and served at one time as the Chairman of the Alfred State College Traditional Employment Grant Committee.
One of his greatest joys was coaching Friendship Little League and Senior League baseball, winning the County Championship in 1998. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs, Buffalo Bills, and Buffalo Sabres Fan. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, and playing basketball. He was a St. Bonaventure Season Ticket Holder for many years, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc, 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 1-3 P.M. at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Marc Chamberlain, will officiate. Friends may also join us for a Celebration of Life at 4 P.M. at the Friendship American Legion.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Friendship, New York.
Memorials may be made to the Allegany County Cancer Services or the American Cancer Society.
