Loving Father, Grandfather
Russell G. “Russ” Scott, 79, of 9840 Hardy’s Corners Road, Rushford, NY passed way Friday, October 13, 2023 at his daughter’s home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.
Born on March 10, 1944, in Friendship, he was a son of Floyd H. and Marie E. Vail Scott. On September 19, 1964, in Friendship, he married the former Sylvia S. Speta and together they spend the next 48 years making family and wonderful memories until her passing on August 15, 2013.
Russ was a graduate of Friendship Central School Class of 1962. He then went to Welding Technical School in Wellsville.
He worked at Air Preheater in Wellsville as a welder and traveled extensively for work. In 1984, he became the Superintendent of Building and Grounds at Rushford Central School retiring in 2004.
Russ was a life member of the Shawn M. Clemens Memorial AmVets Post 1 of Cuba and a member of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman that thrived on trophy bucks and long beards. There are endless mounts to prove it, as well as, stories of fishing at Silver Lake with the Scott Clan. Russ also enjoyed his trapline and made Christmas extra special with his ability to find the furs. When his children were young, he enjoyed watching their athletic events, traveling to many places to cheer them on from the stands, a tradition continued for his grandchildren’s athletic events as well. He coached softball at Rushford while Charlene played. He also loved antique shopping, coin detecting, crocks and jugs, and traveling with his wife and close friends Max and Jeroldine Ingalls, to Mexico for 25 years.

Several Nieces and Nephews
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother Fay W. (Lois) Scott, a brother-in-law Gizz Stephens, and his favorite dog, Buddy.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Graveside services will follow visitation to 2:30 P.M. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, New York.
