Arthur E. “Art” Slike, Sr., 83, Bradford, PA
Arthur E. “Art” Slike, Sr. passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 4, 1940, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Robert F. and Katherine B. (Graybill) Slike, Sr.
Art graduated from the Bradford High School, Class of 1958. After High School he attended JCC for accounting. He was drafted into the United States Army National Guard in 1962 and served honorably until his discharge in 1968.
In 1966 he started working for Hounds and Hunting Publishing Company. He later became Co-Owner with his brother, Robert F. Slike, Jr., in 1976 and continued to be Secretary/Treasurer and traveling correspondent until 2011, when he retired.
Art was a member of various clubs and organizations throughout his life, including the McKean County Beagle Club from 1946 to 2011, the Kiwanis Club, the Custer City Men’s Club and was a Lifetime Member of the Bradford Gun Club.
Art was presented with the Purina Lifetime Achievement Award and was an Inductee into the Brace Beagling Hall of Fame. He met two United States Presidents, several State Governors, and many Celebrities. He was a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed the pursuit of fowl and large game. He visited several of the 50 States and three Provinces of Canada.
On July 25, 1970, he married Linda S. (Phetterplace) Slike, who survives. They were able to celebrate 53 years of marriage this year. Together they have four children: Arthur (Amanda) Slike, Jr. of Franklin, IN, Natalie (Adrian) Mawn of Bradford, Kimberlie (Joel) Johnson of Leesburg, GA, and Christopher (Barb) Slike of Lewis Run.
Along with his wife and children, he leaves behind three granddaughters: Madison Mawn, Maiya Johnson and Jillian Slike; two step-granddaughters: Ashley Torrey and April Torrey; one step-great-grandson, one brother Robert F. (Frances) Slike, Jr., of Bradford, two sisters-in-law: Debra Phetterplace and Madeline Phetterplace and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his older brother Joseph G. (Marlene) Slike.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be private and held for the family, with Fr. Jim Gutting, of St. Bernard Church as Celebrant.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Bradford Regional Medical Center, Radiology Department, McKean County SPCA, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
