Portville, NY—Timothy M. Wiles, 69, of 90 S. Main St., formerly of 23 Brooklyn St., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Tim was born on December 7, 1953 in Olean and was the son of Thomas M. and Tena A. Linn Wiles.
Timothy was a 1971 graduate of Portville Central School and graduated from Finger Lakes Community College in 1974. Tim worked at Union Tools in Portville as a yardman retiring in 2004. He also worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation, at the Cattaraugus County BOCES in Ellicottville, and West Penn Hardwoods.
Tim was a student of forestry and prided himself on his extensive knowledge of trees and lumber grown locally and exotic woods from across the world. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tying his own flies and fishing rivers and streams throughout New York State.
Tim enjoyed hunting turkey and deer and especially loved hunting waterfowl from his canoe on the Oswayo and Allegany rivers and with his beloved Labrador retrievers throughout Cattaraugus County. Tim enjoyed gardening and was known for his bountiful vegetable gardens.
He also enjoyed collecting antique fishing lures and native American artifacts. He loved playing cribbage, basketball and volleyball. He loved watching all sports and complaining about the Bills. He was a voracious reader. He loved listening to all kinds of music.
Tim is survived by; three sisters, Kathleen W. (Kenneth) Smith of Clermont, FL, Margaret A. Wiles (Tom) of Branchport and Pamela A. (Joseph) Schoener of Skaneateles; two nieces, Katherine (Michael) Perkins and Michele (Greg) Pratt; and a nephew, Thomas Schoener (Olivia), and three grand nieces Riley, Peyton, and Lyla.
Tim was predeceased by his parents.
Friends will be received on Thursday, September 28, 2023 in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at which time a memorial service will be held. Deacan Matthew R. Wenke will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
