Richard Joseph “D.D.” Darrin, 75, of Coudersport, PA passed away on July 26, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born on August 1, 1947, in Coudersport, the son of the late Elwood “Cy” and Beverly “Eloise” (Lowe) Darrin. He married the former Valerie M. Karhan on July 2, 2006, and has celebrated 17 years of marriage.
Dick was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1966 and was a Marine veteran, serving in Vietnam in the 1st Division during the Tet Offensive. Dick was a long-haul truck driver for 36 years.
Dick was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church and was in the church choir. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Marine Corp League, Lifetime member of the American Legion Potter Post 192, The Black Forest Club, and the Cowboy Club at Black Forest.
He enjoyed Shooting, riding horses, travelling especially to Florida, the Elk in Benezette, and spending time with his family. Dick was always available to help family and friends, he played Santa for many years in the area, he mowed the median strips for Coudersport free of charge, loved animals, and fed many of the cats in his neighborhood.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by sons. Devin S. (Jill) Staiger of Dublin, OH; Thomas W. (Kristy) Glassmire of Coudersport; daughters, Robin Jo (Ricky) Darrin of Ft. Myers, FL; Nicole R. (Scott) Darrin of Emporium; stepchildren; Shannon, Greg, Jarret, Jason, and Jill, a sister-in-law, Tessie Darrin of Coudersport; a nephew Edwin Darrin, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Saturday July 29, 2023, from 9-10:30 am at St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 E. Maple St., Coudersport. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am with Father Chris Wheeler, officiating. A private burial will be held in Eulalia Cemetery with military honors provided by the Potter County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dick’s name be made to St. Eulalia Catholic Church Restoration Project Fund.
