Dr. Kurt Josef Laemmer, DMD, 59, of Bradford, PA
Dr. Kurt Josef Laemmer, DMD, 59, of Bradford, PA, passed away on July 23, 2023 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
Born October 3, 1963 in Franklin, PA, he was the son of Carolyn Hexammer Laemmer and Kurt Laemmer Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and former spouse Karrie Laemmer. Surviving are Rolf Laemmer, 57, (Diane), of Franklin, PA, his daughters Kristen Laemmer, 24, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Juliah Laemmer, 23, of Pittsburgh, PA.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Westminster College in 1985, followed by a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1990. He was an active member of Delta Sigma Delta, where he formed lifelong friendships.
Dr. Laemmer was an esteemed member of the dental community, serving his patients in Bradford and later Smethport since 1990.
His unwavering commitment to learning and growth led him to attain the prestigious levels of Fellowship, Mastership, and the Lifelong Service and Recognition Award in the Academy of General Dentistry. These achievements were a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence and his desire to provide the highest quality of care to his patients.
He served as the President of the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry and as a Regional Director for Region 3 of The Academy of General Dentistry showcasing his dedication to advancing the field of dentistry.
He volunteered at numerous organizations offering free dental care to underserved Pennsylvanians as well as in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Laemmer’s passing leaves a void in the dental community, but his legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. His dedication, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the field of dentistry will serve as a guiding light for future generations of dentists.
Kurt’s love of learning extended into his countless hobbies. Growing up with his brother Rolf, he helped his family maintain their farm by tending to the animals, bee keeping, and splitting wood. In high school, he performed in the concert band, stage band, and pep band. He played co-ed volleyball and was active in his church. Kurt was also in the high school photography club, and continued this hobby at Westminster College, where he worked as a college campus photographer.
His love for photography became a skill he eventually incorporated into his dental practice. He enjoyed learning guitar, piano, German, Spanish, archery with his daughter Kristen, and biking with his daughter Juliah. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with Nina Lau, his partner and best friend of over 15 years. Kurt enjoyed relaxing on a beach, and visiting with long-time friend Dr. Bob Ferrar.
His legacy will live on through his daughters, Kristen and Juliah, both of whom he cherished and raised proudly as a single father. Dr. Laemmer’s compassion for others and dedication to change lives has inspired Kristen in her pursuit at Chatham University, where she will earn her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. His passion for dentistry has inspired Juliah to carry on his legacy as she continues her own pursuits, where she will earn her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
Donations may be made in honor of Dr. Laemmer to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, The Tuna Valley Trail Association, or Memorial of choice.
