Rowland Proashas, 94, of 72 Covert Rd., Kane, PA
Rowland Proashas, 94, of 72 Covert Rd., Kane, PA passed away Thursday (July 20) at his residence. Born Aug. 6, 1928 in Hamlin Township, he is the son of the late Harry and Leora (Pressler) Proashas. On June 28, 1952, in Chester, PA he married Beverly “Jill” Witherow, who preceded him in death.
Roland joined the Navy in June of 1946 and was a mechanic on planes in Pensacola, FL. He was honorably discharged in May of 1948. He worked as an auto mechanic for several years at local garages, then became the mechanic for the Kane Borough, where he later served as Borough Streets Supervisor for many years. He worked for the Borough from 1965 until 1990, after that he worked in his private auto repair shop until his retirement.
He is survived by three daughters, Susan (Thomas) VanGiesen and Penny Oyler, both of Kane, and Luci (Blair) Bell of Hazelton; grandchildren, Matt (Heather) VanGiesen, Amie (Joe) Gullifer,Amber (Gary) Oyler, Jennifer (Greg) Hoats, David Bell and Erin Sirianni; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Carly VanGiesen, Isaac and Hannah Gullifer, Rebekah Hoats and Camden Duffley.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth R. VanGiesen KIA and two half brothers, Harry and Lamar Birch.
Friends will be received at the First Church of God on Thursday (July 27) from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chad Troup officiating. Burial will be in Gibbs Hill Cemetery.
