Sandra Elaine (Maxson) Froebel
Sandra Elaine (Maxson) Froebel born 1939 in Ceres Township. Sandy passed away peacefully in Gainesville, GA surrounded by loved ones on April 11, 2023, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease.
On June 15, 1963, in Bradford at the Bradford Methodist Church she married her loving husband of 56 years Albert Eugene “Gene” Froebel, who predeceased her in 2019.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Brian (Denise) Froebel of Lakeland, FL; Eric (Melissa) Froebel of Suwanee, GA; and Curtis (Michelle) Froebel of Alden, NY as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Sandy was the 2nd child of Ernest & Ferne Maxson’s 8 children. She is survived by 3 siblings: Barb Adams, Grace Titus and Ernest “Lee” Maxson. She was pre-deceased by four siblings, Erwin “Dan” Maxson, Donald Maxson and Michael Maxson and Ferne (Maxson) Carroll
Sandy spent her childhood years on the family farm in Shinglehouse, PA where she attended Oswayo Valley Central School. After graduation, Sandy earned her B.S in Education from Mansfield University. She continued her education at St. Bonaventure University obtaining her M.S in Reading.
Sandra pursued a career in education teaching in Bradford Area Schools, Olean Public Schools and the Cuba-Rushford School districts. She was highly motivated by helping students who needed extra help. On one occasion she taught herself Mandarin Chinese to help a student with English as a second language. In the 1980’s, Sandy beat Breast Cancer and went on to council other women facing similar challenges and led a full life. Raising three boys and having a husband who was a PE teacher and coach, Sandy was a fierce competitor who enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bike riding, walking and, in retirement, became a champion shuffleboard player. Sandy also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family & friends.
Friends will be received for visitation at Hillside Wesleyan Church, 753 Prospect Avenue, Olean, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 6 PM at which time a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held. Pastor Dan Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse.
