Shirley A. Larson, 92, of N. Ann St., passed away Tuesday (May 16, 2023) in the Buffalo General Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born March 29, 1931, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of John J. and Alice E. Clark Hanlon. On July 8, 1950, in Port Allegany, she married Carlton A. Larson, who died Apr. 4, 2018. They were married 67 years.
Shirley was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1949.
She was employed with Bell Telephone Co. of PA, as a dental assistant with Dr. Phil Carlson, and later as a shipping assistant with Pittsburgh Corning Co., formerly of Port Allegany, before retiring.
Shirley was a member and church secretary for 35 years with the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and four other churches; and member of the Women of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She was a member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Phoenix Chapter, Smethport; and former secretary of the local Red Cross.
Surviving are two sons, Nathan J. (Bonnie) Larson of New Franklin, OH, Paul A. Larson of Orchard Park, NY; ten grandchildren, two of which were raised by Carlton & Shirley: Pam A. (Dan) Dixon and Paige A. (Andrew) Moore both of Reading, PA; 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carlton, and three sisters: Exilda R. Hanlon, Marjorie W. Zlobec, and Virginia E. Holden.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (May 22, 2023, in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. John Kallerson, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
An O.E.S. service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
