James A. “Jim” McGill, 79, of 218 Willow St., Johnsonburg, passed away late Monday night, May 8, 2023, at Penn Highlands-Elk, St. Marys following a lengthy illness. He was born November 10, 1943 in St. Marys, a son to the late Paul and Nancy Piccolo McGill. On June 25, 1967 in Johnsonburg, he married Donna R. Blashock. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2013.
Jim grew up in St. Marys attended St. Marys Catholic Schools. After his marriage in 1967, he moved to Johnsonburg and has lived most of his life there. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Central Hose Co., Prince of Piedmont Club, Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club and the CMF Club in St. Marys. He had also been a member of St. Joe’s in Johnsonburg. Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, playing pool, listening to Elvis and watching Westerns. He had been especially proud of the softball teams he sponsored when he owned Jim’s Tavern.
Jim retired from Eastern Sintered Alloys in 2013 after 17 years of service. Prior to that, he had owned and operated Jim’s Tavern in Johnsonburg for 10 years and had worked at Stackpole in St. Marys.
Jim is survived by his children, Timothy “Tim” McGill and his wife Julie of York, PA, Shelley, Mrs. Angel Perez of Johnsonburg, Ray McGill and his wife Nicole of Stephens City, VA and Cheryl, Mrs. Michael Yost of Johnstown, his grandchildren, Halie McGill, Kiefer Kuhn, Keegan Kuhn, Kirsten, Mrs. Matt Galsick, Angel Perez, Jr., Christopher Perez, Keshia Perez, Olivia Perez-McGill, Eli Perez, Lena McGill and Delaney Yost, his great-grandchildren Otto and Isla Galsick and his beloved dog Elvis. He is also survived by brothers John McGill and his wife Carol, Denny McGill and his wife Linda, and his sisters Anita, Mrs. Jim Groll and Annette, Mrs. Howard Meyer all of St. Marys. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Jim is predeceased by his parents and wife.
A Mass of Christian Burial for James A. “Jim” McGill will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Monday May 15, 2023 at 10 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
